FL, now, looks like the best team in the country to me.
Well it looks like Auburn and Billy Graham have something in common; the ability to get 70000 people to yell Jesus Christ at the same time...
Sure, other teams look great. But I could see FL beating absolutely anyone right now, and doing it in style. The Longhorns are getting embarassed right now...I'm loving it.
uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Texas - must say I did not see that one coming. Well, that shakes the can. Right now Florida really looks strong.
Just my opinion, but I would probably have something like Alabama Texas Tech Florida Penn State Texas Oklahoma USC I feel good about the top three. I don't expect Florida to jump quite that much, but this is just where I would probably rank the teams tomorrow.
I called that one too. I said if Texas played sloppy they would not win. Texas did not show up till the 4th quarter and did not win. Our pass defense sucks and TT passed all over us. It sucks, but I'm not surprised. The Tech Vs. Oklahoma will be a good game.
I agree, except Penn State. They suck. Any of those teams on that list would wipe their ass with Penn State. They struggled against Ohio State who sucks. Their 9-0 comes form playing crap unranked teams. They have no business in the top 15. Do you REALLY think Penn State could beat Oklahoma, Texas and USC? Pleeeaasseeee....
I'm eager for PSU to compete in the BCS bowl. It will be a great time. Ok......so they have a strong chance of losing...least it will be a the BCS game!
As I've been lampooned/diss'd/etc' for my assessment that 'SC & Florida are the top 2 teams, respectively, at least today made things things a bit clearer! I saw the Texas loss a mile-away, a full-moon ago. And it's all on good ol' Mack. The players lack discipline, attention to detail, and proper/timely execution. Loads of talent & depth, hell'ya! Under-achievers? Big-time. Seen even better Longhorns teams under Mack stumble to lesser foes in the past seasons w/ just as much at stake. Great team, just an average coach. The once-in-a-lifetime-college-talent of Vince Young gave Mack some credibility (say what you will about V.Young in the NFL, but in h/s & college, he was simply the best- as I saw him in h/s playoff/championship/all-star/all-state games, then obviously at UT... he was a phenom that even Mack couldn't mess up w/). I'm around a great many Longhorn staff/support/aux'/etc' and even players at times. Not really a tight, tidy ship here. A shame, because the talent/infra-structure/support should create a dynasty in Austin. . . 'Bama played a complete game, on both ends of the ball. Dunno how Saban did it, so quick / so fast (the turnaround). Though, I still like Florida to take the SEC, this season. Tebow's experience is unreal, as-is his multi-faceted abilities (which is what wins games deep in the season & in January; see V.Young above!). 'SC is hittin' on all cylinders, and doing what an elite top-level team should do: annihilate the competition, no matter how lowly/soft. The defense is giving up ~8pts/game for the season & ~4pts/game for since the loss 5 games ago. Can they keep that motivation & execution until January, time will tell. Are they capable of beating anyone? I am sure (though others won't/don't agree). Oklahoma & TexasTech game looks to be huge on paper, but I'm somewhat confident Oklahoma will take it & thus propelling them into the Big12 CCG and winning it w/ ease. Or if they lose it (however unlikely), a one-loss Texas can make big strides in the polls towards a BCS birth (pollsters have long memories for teams they fancied in a season). Penn State seemingly can now stumble into the BCS National Championship game just by winning out. Though, they are number 3 in my personal assessment. 'SC & Florida are in a class of themselves (personal/subjective insight, but of-course!). . . So, if a 12-0 Penn State gets one bid for the BCS shin-dig, who gets the other... a presumably 12-1 SEC champion Florida or 11-1 'SC? If-so, then which one of them two? And, yes a potential 12-1 Oklahoma can make an argument, as well. They just need to guillotine teams in style en'route to the Big12 CCG & beyond. It'd be hard to ignore them, to be honest. Though, I feel 'SC is a better team, if Oklahoma routs possible top-5 TexasTech & Oklahoma State in successive weeks, and then decimate a Big12 North opponent for the conference championship, the voters/computers have to cue them into the National Championship game over 'SC due to caliber of opponents, simply. So, it'd be a toss-up between choosing Florida & Oklahoma to face Penn State! (!-!-! all assuming 'Bama falters once, whether down the road or ultimately to likely Florida in the SEC CG !-!-!) I wonder what kinda motivational garbage Coach Richt will have for this down & beaten 'dawgs?!?
I agree with you completely. I am no fan of Penn State, I think I've made a few posts in this thread to show that. But, that's just way the rankings work. I was trying to be as realistic as I could with it.
Very practical position to take if you are a PSU fan. Completely devoid of any integrity or justification of course, but quite practical indeed.
I think Mack is a good coach and there's loads of talent on that team. That damn Gregg Davis is the weak link in the whole thing. Did you see how Tech was all over the place and keeping Texas guessing? We were confused and had no idea what to do. THAT'S what Texas needs to be doing. But NOOOOOOOO. We played the same crap plays we always play. 9 times out of 10 it's just some quick out 2 yard pass that goes nowhere. Gregg Davis needs to be fired, but Mack won't sack him. If Mack won't fire him, Mack can go too.
... which now comes to light: A Div' 1A program from one of the BCS conferences [Big(L)East, A.C.C. a.k.a A.S.S., Pac10/lack-10, Big10+1/BigBore+snore, SEC/SE-Three (any given season, any given 3 can take it all), Big12/'we-dunno-need-no-here-stinkin'-defense-ya'll'] goes undefeated but is not as highly regarded/respected as another program also from a BCS conference which has a loss but is on a total other level in terms of awesomeness/opponent-destruction... who should go to the BCS National Championship game? Tough, I know. . . Adon, friggin' Mack is a guru here in town. I wouldn't doubt if they name the field/playing-surface after him or the new end-zone section (which will make Royal seat over 125,000+ w/ ease, lolz). . . I do agree, a lesser coach (and different staff/coordinators) w/ what is present here in Austin would've had handful of BCS trophies by now. . . But, it came down to poor-execution & reliance on talent/ability/skill, not discipline/know-how/coaching/game-plan. Ugh, frustrating, not this game/season but the whole Mack tenure. Take away Vince's time here, it's been 10-wins of mediocrity year-in/year-out. . .
WRECK 'EM TECH! Biggest game in Texas Tech Football history. Biggest win in Texas Tech History. There is much work to do, this was only one more test, still 2 serious tests remain in Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. And Baylor to wrap up the season, heck they gave Mizzou a run for their money. But for the meantime, it's time to celebrate a win. Here are some gratuitous jpgs. "That's how we throw it down on the Llano Estacado." I am biased, but I don't really agree with you... The PSU/OSU game was a hard fought game between two well coached teams in a hard fought defensive match. I am not alone in this thinking as the polls/ commentators agree. A win is a win. PSU also won with ZERO turn-overs and ZERO penalties. These days, that is a rarity. Regardless, your same argument could be made against USC who LOST to Oregon State, the same team that Penn State beat with a commanding victory. IMO, USC is one of the biggest over-rated teams in the NCAA and they frequently lose to or barely beat non-ranked teams. They have the ability to play up for the big game, but they seem to get cocky and play down for games that should be a gimme. Penn States biggest threats to the BCS national championship, assuming they win out: Texas Tech and Florida. Texas Tech, who still has to play Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, will be hard to keep out of the top two because of the challenges that wait ahead in coming weeks. In my opinion and the polls seem to agree: there is a strong possibility that this is Joe Pa's last year. I think he deserves the chance to prove whether PSU can REALLY stand against the SEC and Big 12. And other top teams playing "unranked teams" for the rest of the season: Alabama, USC, Texas, Georgia, and Florida. Granted these teams have league championships, but they should all be able to coast for the remainder of the season. Edit: 3 final notes.. 1. If PSU does lose, I wont be surprised if they drop out of the top 10. The polls have notoriously been harsh to them over the years (think 1994). USC loses to an unranked team and dropped to 9, i don't think that PSU will have the same luxury 2. I am in favor of a play-off system. Lets bring in a sweet 16 or elite 8 tourney! 3. Whoever wins, whatever the ranks maybe. NCAA football is some of the finest entertainment in the country. The rankings make it interesting and the upsets keep you hooked!
Bama's gonna have a tough game with LSU I think. And Auburn will play as hard as they can, just have to see how Bama handles them. Roll Tide.
+1 It is much like the Texas game, esp if Bama comes in at #1 - then there is the Saban factor. I think LSU is poised to really be up for this game. Coach Saban, I am sure, will be working on focus for the young guys this week downplaying any rating. The situation is the same for Auburn - anything can happen. Props to TT! Well done. Texas just looked lost - that focus thing again - for such an amazing team of talented men, Florida - wow, huh? They certainly looked like they could be the best in the country.
I think Tommy looses his job if Auburn looses that game, at least based on how they are playing the rest of this season.
