After a long season it is Lewis Hamilton as world champion. Many congratulations to him as it was well fought for and justly deserved.

As for Massa, he drove an excellent last race and was very gracious in defeat.

This was a great day for Formula 1! It will probably go down as the most exciting race finish ever. There was drama, good passing, and above all a highly entertaining race. There were no crazy things like people intentionally taking folks out or poor sportsmanship. It was a good clean fight and entertaining which is the point. All said and done Massa was a class act! He won his home race in dominant fashion. Lewis on his 2nd engine starting the race in an ironically similar points advantage as last year had to not "choke". After getting passed by Vettel with one lap left he could have had the air taken out but kept fighting and was able to pass Glock in the final turn! Unbelievable, the stands, his family...heck Masssa himself thought he had won it all for half of the cool down lap. It must have been the most crushing dissappointment from that unbelievable high. Did he make excuses, no. He was a sportsman, fought back his tears and emotion. He gave credit to his team and to Hamilton. With all the politics and people trying to mess up F-1, this was a very great moment...at least for today. Great work Massa and Ferrari, it was a fun ride this season. Congrats to Ferrari for winning the Constructors Championchip! Nugget

Massa having won the most races but having horrible luck would be the more deserving champion in my book. Hamilton is nowhere near as gracious or dignified and not anywhere near as popular.

The right man won the race, the right team won the Constructors' World Championship and the right man won the Drivers' World title. Interesting that he did it in a car pedigree-attested - by the all-knowing FIA, no less - to include No Ferrari...

And whoever writes Bernie's scripts deserves an Oscar.

I guess you didn't see the last few seconds of the race... In what way you say "It was justly deserved"? Glock moved out of the way and the Championship was handed to Hamilton. I suggest you go back and rewind the race and watch the last 10 seconds again...

I'd like to see Glock's on-board camera before I accuse him of anything. He was on slicks while everyone else was on intermediates; anybody remember Heidfeld make up 5? positions on the last lap?
Was a fantastic race though. I hope Hamilton takes a page from Massa's book about good sportsmanship.

Glock was in a slower car. Quit whining about it.... the only reason it was even coming down to the last race is because the chance was "handed" to Massa through FIA meddling in the first place.

Hamilton won the WDC because, *despite* intervention by the FIA to try to hold him back, he won enough points to beat everyone else. To diminish his efforts this year because you don't like the fact that Glock didn't play hardball and force a collision is just lame.

What a thrill to have Mr. Nye comment on my thread!

I agree that the right man won the championship and the correct team emerged victorious. Ferrari did do the better job as a team and as an idividual driver Hamilton was strongest despite his not being able to rely on the pace of his teammate for help to the same degree as Massa. Massa too showed some excellent form and composure in the post race press interview. Despite winning the battle he was at a loss after loosing the war and it was refreshing to see the purity of his comments where he struggled to accept the loss without hiding behind excuses.

I think Hamilton showed equal composure last year when confronting the media after his Championship loss. As such I would expect a similar amount of class and humility after winning this year.

Lastly I will quote Enzo Ferrari as I feel both Hamilton (last year) and Massa (this year) have honorably held up the words of the great man:

"It is useless to justify lack of success by hiding behind misfortune, which is no other than the sum total of all the factors in all the situations which we did not know how or were unable to foresee.”

Well, you ARE on a 'Ferrari' website, and therefore must be construed as somewhat biased..

Hammie is pretty popular on the McLaren websites..

No... I wasn't, but the driver's champion would have stayed in the team, and being a "team player" that would have met that Massa would have his turn at the title too. After reading most of the threads here on F-chat about how the final race of the season finished out it obvious to me that you guys aren't exact true loyal Ferrari fans unlike me... "I see red, I sleep red and I pissed red" and if that meant if Ferrari came in dead last, I would still think Ferrari is still the best team in F1.... and if you're not on the same level, than I suggest that you might want to start your own "McLaren Chat" and then talk about how Hamilton won the Championship fairly without help.

So how would that work for someone like me then. I have owned 5 Ferraris and currently own two. I holiday in Maranello every single year in a Ferrari. I support Ferrari in there quest to win the Constructors Championship. I followed MS for all of his time in Ferrari as well as being an Eddie Ervine fan. But yet i am a Lewis Hamilton fan.
Which forum would you suggest i post on.
Chances are that you may not have been to Maranello, but do i say you are not a true die hard ferrari fan because you have not visited the Mecca.....er no.

You have ~600 posts and haven't been much of a participant here so to tell people who are much more actively involved in F1, especially as it pertains to this site, to go away is laughable at best.

Second, Andreas and others have highlighted all along that there are people who are real sportsmen who enjoy the sport for the competition, and there are people who don't really care about sport, beyond their team winning and the resulting ego shot that goes along with it. To me, to be known as an F1 fan who supports Ferrari is a much higher accolade than just being someone who gets all pissy if "their guy" doesn't win.

I enjoy a good story. Lewis' story this year has been fantastic, despite FIA meddling. To some, if Hamilton was a victim of sabotage and someone watered down his fuel, that would be a great way to win. To someone who'se ego is wrapped up in the team's wins, perhaps, but not to a sportsman. A true sportsman will take a loss over a hollow win.

Lewis won today. Massa lost. Massa lost as graciously as a man can lose, and deserves the utmost respect for being dignified and classy in defeat.

Unfortunate that 1% of the dignity and class that Massa displayed today cannot be attributed to some on here that call themselves his "fans".

So if Hamilton moves to Ferrari next year.... you will have to love him.

Being blindly loyal, beyond logical thought, just makes you a slave to events. LOL

Jerry Seinfeld once said.... My team moved (from one state to another) then we got new free agent players, and quite frankly the only thing that doesn't change is the uniform.... I find that, the only thing the "true sport fan" is doing now-a-days is rooting for laundry. LOL

It's done Gentlemen!!!!!!!!!!! Massa proved he is a great driver doing what he needed to do to try and win the Driver's championship. Lewis did what he needed to do to win the Driver's championship!!! How can anyone B___h. They both proved they are world class drivers. I wish I had half the ability of either one. Next year I sure hope Ferrari wins it all both driver and constructors but I have to be honest and admit Lewis did what he needed to and I can't complain about glock. Kimi gave a position to Massa two weeks ago and we didn't say Massa didn't deserve the points. I will love FERRARI AND PULL FOR THEM EVERY YEAR but I won't deny that Hamilton did what needed to be done to earn the drivers championship.

I feel karma-wise that LH is about back to even -- on the wrong side of lucky last year and on the right side of lucky this year -- so I'll judge him by the next few year's results.

Is Ferrari the only team in F1 who has won the WCC, but not won the WDC in the same year? (I.e., Heikki didn't do so well this year)
