Dino, many thanks for posting those pics. Any VIN available???? Particular the Ghibli-Spyder is of interest as the VIN is on a small plate ON the dashboard under the front screen. Ciao! Walter
Hi Walter, I was not able to get close enough to get the vin # on the blue Spyder, it was roped off. But its currently on display at the Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation in Brookline, Massachusetts in the United States. Its on display for a special Italian cars exhibit and there is a rathter sad example of a yellow Bora near it but its got several dents and scrapes. Perhaps if you contact the museum they can tell you more about the blue Spyder on display. The other 2 cars were just at the car show for the day and I did not think anyone would be interested in the vins. But if they appear at any other vintage shows I will get the vins. I believe I may have seen the silver blue coupe a few years ago and if its the same car, the owner told me it was originally delivered in France. I'm not sure how long ago it was imported to the USA. Best regards, Dino
Let's see...I have posted to the Khamsin thread, the Mexico thread, and the QP 1 thread... Now on to the Ghibli... I am currently the owner of AM115491928, which is currently undergoing restoration... I am in a dilemma on colors... When I bought the car, it was black... According to the build sheet it was Lime Green!!! Not one of my favorite colors... I have enjoyed looking at all the different colors in the pictures posted.. It has given me several things to think about, so keep them coming... I will try and find some pictures from when the car was black and some pictures of the car being restored...I will post them when found... Anyone have any history on this one? Mike D.
Here is what I have from the build sheet for this car (it may be of some interest to some!)... ''1972 Ghibli SS Coupe - AM115/49*1928*; 4.9L engine, built in April of 1972. The original color was 'Verde Gemma' (gem (or jewel green - #106G.53) with the original interior in 'Bianca' (white - PAC1544) Connolly leather. Built to US specs, this car came with wire wheels and was shipped to Grossman Motor Corp. of Nyack, NY for Mrs. Irene Andriole.".. Mike D.
Here is a picture of the car...Not the best, but shows the whole car...As I began gutting it, you can see the original color on the door (2nd picture)!!! Mike D. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Walter... Actually the seller of this car was Richard DiRosa...I think you can put him as the owner until 2006, which is when I bought it.... Mike D.
An interesting Ghibli turned up at the Geneva (Illinois) concours today. It is a 1971, s/n 1934 in original condition and has about 7,500 miles. It also apparently has the 4.9 euro spec engine, even though it was first delivered to Cleveland in the US. The owner mentioned something about how the first owner used an exemption of some kind to get the higher spec engine. Neat car. I see this car was already brought up in this thread starting at post #189. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Just spent a very pleasant couple of hours (with one or two very brief interuptions for work) looking at some fantastic posts in this thread; chat, technical, pics and movies all about the lovely Ghibli. I recognise some of the contributors from the Maserati Forum where I have posted for a while as Coops (which was already in use on this forum it seems, hence the new 'handle') but there seems to be more discussion on my favoured subject of classic Maserati's right here. I've had my Ghibli for almost a year now and I love it. I've searched for a Ghibli register without success although there seem to be Khamsin, Bora etc out there. Do you ever plan to publush your findings on the Net Walter? I'll let you have my VIN and some history if you wish, I'll look it up tomorrow as I can't remember it off-the-top-of-my-head. It's a 1969 4.7 LHD which started out life in Switzerland. This pic is post bodywork restoration and I'm really pleased with the result. Right....I'm off to see what else I can find. Thanks everyone. Keep posting. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thought I'd add a couple more pics from various events I've attended. Just local club events with typical British weather mostly. Andy. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Andy, yep, it would be great to show us the history of your car. No, I do not intend to publish the complete Ghibli-listings on the net. If someone is requesting infos about a specific car/VIN I provide what I have. Ciao! Walter
Nice colors. Looks to be in good shape. I hope you use it more than just to shows. Drive the hell out of it. Alberto
First owner: Zurich CH - Owned approx 1 year Second Owner: Geneve CH - Owned approx 19 years (There is little info with the car from around this time but as far as I can tell there was no one between these two). Third Owner: Car imported into the UK and initially registered in Jersey under a Channel Islands plate then moved up to the mainland UK and given a 'period' appropriate registration number which it still carries. Owned approx 18 years. Fourth Owner: East Yorkshire UK. Owned approx 1 year. As far as I can tell the engine has never been apart and it still sounds as smooth as a old engine can and runs great. I try and take it out most weekends Alberto, I'm lucky to be on the edge of some excellent country lanes and moorland. Still pretty quick too; I had her up to 220 KPH without hesitation or complaint and it felt very planted and stable, due in no small part to a new set of tyres (it was still wearing Pirelli Cinturatos when I got it and they must have been at least 20 years old). If your anything like me you'll enjoy pictures of work-in-progress so here are a couple of shots from it's time in the bodyshop. Not a full body-off restoration but taking care of the rust before it could fully take hold......hope you like 'em. Hi! I thought I'd ad my uncle's '69 Ghibli SS to the thread: It has somewhere around 46000km (I now live in Santa Barbara, CA so I can't check the exact mileage ) and is located in Vienna, Austria. The car also participates in the annual Kitzbühler Alpenrallye in Austria. I just love the Ghibli SS - it's just so raw. '69 Ghibli SS AM115 91432 He also has a Khamsin 4.9 (AM120.096) that was just repainted, but I don't have pictures of that one yet. Don't know how to insert pictures here - maybe somebody can fix this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fenicorsa/2886640238/sizes/l/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/fenicorsa/2886615050/sizes/l/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/fenicorsa/2886647576/sizes/l/
I just saw my links aren't working: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3202/2886640238_1dddbede3e_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3267/2886615050_bcbea89b94_b.jpg http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3086/2886647576_2229642208_b.jpg
Wow, beautiful color as well. Great looking car. Do you know where it was first delivered? It looks like the dash has been reconfigured. Do you know if that was done when it was restored (I assume it was restored). Alberto
As far as I know the first owner was an Orsi (I don't know which one - my uncle would know). The car still has it's original paint and left the factory the way it looks now. (The paint just looks so amazing because I photoshopped it slightly) Can somebody verify this via the VIN? - Alex EDIT: Another thing I always wanted to know: Were power-seats standard on the Ghibli SS?
The dash configuration is like no other Ghibli dash I have seen (although I don't pretend to be an expert by any means) including the dash top which is typically black mousehair. By the way, are you sure it's an SS (just wondering because of the toggles)? I think dark colors looks best on Ghibli's and silver (in all of shades dark, light, mid) look great on them too. Any how, nice car. Alberto
Wouldn't the 49 in the VIN already confirm it's a SS? EDIT: I made a mistake when posting the VIN: it is 115 49 1432
Hi everyone, I am new to this thread (I am more on the Lambo part!) but I have always loved the Ghibli which I consider as one of the most beautiful car ever made. I just browsed across this fasinating thread and I see that there are some very knowledgeable people out there! My father owns a 1968 4,7l Ghibli for 25 years now and I would like to know if someone could help me trace its history. As far as he knows his former owner was italian, but apart thet, nothing... Its chassis number is AM115 422, it is dark blue and now it has now 90'000km on the clock. It is very original (original leather, books + tools, etc...) and has just had a full engine rebuild. My father drives it very regularly. I will post some pictures when he scans them for me.
Here are three pictures of Ghibli 1 Antonio Scarpetta 4.7 2 Jurgen Hering SS 3 Richard Vollenweider SS Ciao Andrea Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Andrea "Andymont" in your first photo in post 274, behind the gold Ghibli, a silver Khamsin is visible: if you have photos and any information on that one I would very much appreciate if you posted it in the Khamsin thread: thank you very much in advance! best regards, Marc Sonnery Maserati Khamsin Registry
