I was just reading a nice post from Jim on AutoBlog.com (from Aug 2006)

    http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/02/autoblog-qanda-james-glickenhaus-owner-of-the-ferrari-p4-5/
"...I never sell cars that I love what they may be worth some day is not something I really care about. "
"... I shudder to think what this car might sell for in 50 years should my Grand Kids decide that they no longer Love it as I do. "

I don't know how many of us will be around in 50 years, but how much do you think the P4/5 will actually be worth in 50 years?

    (All speculation welcome.. :D )

We all know that Ferrari prices will not be shooting up any time soon, but here we have a "One of One" car that can only go up, especially in the long run...

In 2008 or 2058 dollars? I would say two Billion in 2008 dollars.

I think right now with the market down the way it is, Jim could unload it today for 200k cash.

I know at least one buyer at that price. I can't tell you his name but I can tell you his initials M.E.

Actually I think 10 million would be the tops for many years to come. Even though it is rare it does not have the history, etc of some of them racing ones.

    Interesting answer. :)

I meant: In 2058 dollars. By then, no one will talk in terms of 2008 dollars...

Right, but it appears that Jim is not interested in selling at this time.

The question comes up if his heir(s) wish to sell it or not, if they choose.

A few things to keep in mind. The part of the world that may have the most cash for a while Russia, The Middle East, and China seem to have very little interest in Classic Cars. They seem to like the New, New thing. Note the number of Bugatti's in the Middle East for example.

P 4/5 fell through a magic moment in time that has been closed tight. The odds of a one off Ferrari Super Car that is officially recognised by Ferrari that is as unique as P 4/5 being built in the future for several reasons is very slim. There is also the issue of PF which may not be the same as it was when Andrea was alive.

P 4/5 is the only car ever commissioned by an individual as opposed to a manufacturer that has won the Prototype award at Villa d'Este.

The Royal at Bahrain who asked me if there was anyway he could buy P 4/5 and take it home in his Jet did not ask what the price for that would be. Money to him is not the same thing as it is to most of the people in the world.

Should there be an after life I hope if it's ever sold and any of you are around that you'll let me know what it went for when we meet again.

Many great points, but in 30-40 years the p4/5 will be a classic car and I think that is the time frame the OP was thinking.

Let me change my post a little.

I believe it will always be worth 10 million in todays dollars.

Jim is never going to sell, but he certainly isn't shy about marketing his cars like he's going to sell. :)

The world will never now... :D It till be in the Glickenhaus family until the day it cant drive anymore, and they will probably rather bury it themselves than sell it.. I hope that is the way it will turn out.

You didn't market it enough! Should have sold as a celebrity car. :) Portfolio Manager, Director of movies like The Protector and Shakedown, and more importantly FerrariChat.com ambassador.

Ad should have started… "Maserati shared the garage with…"

I wouldn't like to hazard a guess at what that car could be worth in 50 years times. But surely not in the billions?

I already sat down with Jim and Jesse (Jim's son) and we agreed that if/when Jesse is ready to sell (because he will inherit it), my name is at the top of the list. So the rest of you can just take a number!

    Hey Jim,
When I saw you on the "Most Expensive Car in the World" show on Discovery, I was shocked f-chat wasn't on one of your computer displays in the background, but I guess the Bloomberg Terminal deal-eo is a bit more profitable...

Before I took a nap, I tuned in and... 'Nap!

I enjoyed hearing your voice - replete with inflections and nuance - helps give your posts voice.

Other highlight was while the voice-over mused, "Then, he does the unthinkable..." I was having a good, knowing chuckle while you checked the Auto Union for fit.

Did he not realize you actually drive these cars, no matter the price tag?

I just set my PC's date to 2128 just to get a look into the future.

And whoa! The internet is so much better.

Fchat is still here. Pap's post count is 764,241.

Napolis IV just posted pics of P4/5's odometer: 500,000 miles.
