You'll find most any Cotes du Rhones to be most satisfying: because of region, rarely a bad year; because of volume, always cheap. If so inclined, stick it on your windowsill for 1/2 hour when it's 50-60 degrees out [important: not windy], and enjoy.

Most any wine from Chile usually hits the nail on the head, as well, and is not pricey.

 

Can't go wrong with Wolf Blass Yellow Label Cabernet Sauvignon for a "cheap" wine.

I have actually had that. Has some serious RS if I remember correctly. Its been a very long time ago, so my brain is muddled.

All Zin should be RED. In White Zin's defense, if it hadn't been made as a sweet wine to sell to the masses, it would have been ripped from the ground and replanted with Chardonnay and Merlot. That would have been a serious tradgedy for us wine lovers. So while us Red Zin lovers might poke fun at White Zin, I say a little Zin prayer in the back of my head thanking my lucky stars it didn't get turned into overoaked, heavy ML tainted Chard or Merlot.

My favorite quote from Sideways:

Miles: "No, if anyone orders Merlot, I'm leaving. I am NOT drinking any f'ing Merlot!"


Anywho...last night had a 2006 Gabbiano Chianti. 750ml was $10, Magnum was $14. Magnum was the deal!
Serve with grilled bone-in, inch thick, pork loin chops with new potatos roasted with olive oil, fresh rosemary, parma and bacon bits and fresh grilled asparagus.

 

Point well taken! I am new to this wine thing so I am still testing all of the options.

But I figure why pay more than I have to...

Vendage also has the full spectrum of wines........all at similar pricing.

My g/f runs a winery and makes her own Choc. Port which has about 21% alcohol. It's definitely the best wine I've ever drank but you would have to enjoy sweet, dessert wines to appreciate this one. Since we're making it I guess you could call it cheap wine, to consume at least, but she sells it at $38 a bottle for 350ML.

 

All must take notice when the V-man opine 'bout da wine!

 

Best way to learn is to drink and explore all you can. Wine for Dummies is actually a very good read for someone new to wine. Skip the Red wine for Dummies or the White wine for Dummies. Just get the straight Wine for Dummies. Good info that isn't too geeky for a newbie to wine.

I thought it might as much. Finger Lakes Region. Better for a hot summer day while hanging out on the deck. I tried it during the cold of Winter and didn't enjoy it as much.

Indiana has Oliver Winery that makes several fruit based wines that remind me of the same style. Blueberry, sounds nasty, but cold on a hot day as an apertif is just perfect. Then onto the dry wines.

You need a big batch of brownies to match with the choc port! You cannot have too much choc!!!

 

Wolf Blass Grey Label

 

Wonderful stuff. Overpriced in restaurants, though (aren't they all). A lot of Andretti wine is good and inexpensive, but hard to find.

 

Avalon Cabernet. 9 bucks a bottle in TN. Best wine I've ever had for that price.

 

Sea Ridge Chardonnay

An NICE "Tuesday night" wine. $3.69 at Safeway. Seriously, I don't know anyone who hasn't tried it and isn't still buying and drinking it regularly. Would be good stuff at an $8-12 price point much less a little over $3.

And if anyone says "Two buck Chuck" as their choice, I am going to kick them right in the nuts.

 

If that **** was $.09 a bottle I wouldn't drink it. Do yourself a favor and never drink White Zin again.

 

I have never had anything from Wolf Blass. Now two recommendations. Guess I'll have to saddle up......

 

WalMart "wine" is 1.49, EVERYDAY LOW PRICE!

 

See...............I shouldn't of said anything, I had some last night and it tasted like grape juice! All this peer pressure...............lol
