THAT is an amazing video !! If you look at what the guy did you can see that he had very throrough knowledge of his airplane and had practiced knife edge flight many times before. What he did was THINK first and then made use of the powerful engine and powerful rudder and sustained flight with those alone. The new breed of aerobatic machines have an abundance of control power, symmetrical wing sections, and BIG engines. In knife edge flight the lowest wing ( pointing at the ground) isn't doing anything to sustain flight but the rudder is by enabling the pilot to yaw the nose up and the thrust provides something to equal the pull of gravity. You can see down elevator applied. That keeps the nose aligned with the flight path until he got near the ground where he rolled it level. I have tried knife edge slips in a Stearman ( at altitude) and they are very difficult but with a light and powerful airplane with ample control power, I think most pilots could achieve acceptable knife edge flight. That video is still the most amazing thing that I have seen in a long time. An amazing pilot too.

If this is a fake video then I have to admit that I have been snockered. Whoever did it was knowledgeable about aerodynamics and I think that it is plausible and possible. The aerobatic airplanes nowadays can do things that are way beyond what they could do 25 years ago and the pilots have been training to match thier steeds. The Red Bull racers do the knife edge slips as a matter of routine now and a good pilot can roll one on the side and actually climb out in that position.
