New Product Test Mules Wanted

Hi all,

I'm going to be developing a new product for the Ferrari V-12 engines in the Testarossa/512TR/512M and need test mules. Preferably in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Dyno time will be required but in the end the test mule will recieve the product at my material cost. If you are interested please pm me. Thank you

If it boosts horse power you better include a "Differential and Transmission Repair Kit".

Two posts and you are looking for test mules... You may want to fill out your profile and provide examples of past products, I know that TRs are a dime a dozen these days but fixing them is still quite expensive! Hard not to be interested though, I provide my car as a test mule (ominous)...and get to pay for the product at your cost, what a deal!!

 

Hardly doubt TR's are a dime a dozen. What about you fill out YOUR profile also. LOL!

 

BTW just messing with ya.

 

Thats Funny!!! Its like any other car, add power here, break something there.

 

Some can handle it better than others. I just wish the TR wasn't so sensitive about it.

So does that mean you're turning me onto a TR? ... you got a lot of experience with these cars? I'm very curious about the diff failure and what I found in the 308 diff. If you have first hand experience inside these diff's sure would like to know what you've seen. I've read the thread on the carrier splitting and it seems to me that if they have the same thrust washer design as the 308 diff when the tab tears off it will put a load on the carrier which is probably way beyond any load the unit would see in even the most abusive situations. The tab literally acts as a wedge and turning a corner/creating rotation between the spider gears/axles wedges everything even tighter until something gives.

Isn't this the weakest link on these cars? I don't mind going thru one of these the way I did my 308. I'm not that old yet .

edit: BTW "diff" = differential

 

The dif failure is from the fact that early cars a two piece unit the was welded together. When the welds failed the case gets hammered apart. I think the later cars had problems with breaking gears. And the shaft from the transfer gears into the trany acts as a mechanical fuse. FWIW.

Not for the car - NITROUS OXIDE was the inspiriation for the post itself.

 

Are you familiar with the thrust washer setup I'm referring to? I'm curious if this failure is caused by this thrust washer failure. If someone has pulled a busted diff apart and seen the tabs intact on the thrust washers it would pretty much convince me the thrust washers have nothing to do with it, but from what I've seen in pics it really looked like it could've of been caused by this little $10 part.

History shows that the failure is "usually" caused by cracked welds and carrier separation. The frequency cracked welds are usually a result of hard shifting, dropped clutches and burnouts.

 

Yeah but I'm still curious about the thrust washer which I think could cause this seperation .... I was doing all of this (except hard shifts ) with my 308 and when the diff failed it was only due to the busted thrust washer which really put some stress on the diff ... the clutch pack literally bound up and jammed so that all the end float was happening on one of the output shafts ... so one shaft had zero end float and the other had like .040" or more. Kinda difficult to run the numbers but I would suspect the "splitting" force on the carrier from the broken tab on the thrust washer getting lodged in there would be like 10-20x just dumping the clutch.

Can I please have the next cheap (sorry to use that word ) TR that comes along? Broken diff/tranny big +++.
