    Quote from seller--"Only 20 F355 GTS's were built for the U.S. in 1995"

I guess lying to potential buyers is one way to try and sell a car.... Now if you bought this car based on his description and later found out it was a lie,,,,,any recourse???

Note the 2.7 engine + third brake light, side markers + airbags say 1995, USA
How about 1994? Any USA versions without airbag around?

That car is the spitting image of mine, even the "Los Gatos Ferrari" license surround.

If he is a private seller, in short, almost no way. If he is a dealer, you might have a potential claim for misrepresentation, but it wouldn't be worth the time and hassle.

How many GTSs in '95? I did think it was a pretty low number. Maybe not that low, but pretty low.

More GTS cars were produced in the early years than later ones....Figure in 94 alone, there were no Spiders made, only GTB and GTS cars...

No recourse, misrepresentation of it being a salvage title or something major such as claiming a car is manual transmission when it is automatic would have recourse, but claiming a certain amount of cars were made especially in such a vague description there is no misrepresentation. It's up to how the reader interprets it.

Is there 20 F355 GTS cars in 1995?

Is there 20 red F355 GTS cars in 1995?

Is this just one of the first 20 GTS cars made in 1995?

Is this one of 20 red/tan F355 GTS cars in 1995?

Is this one of the 20 red/tan F355 GTS cars in 1995 with this exact set-up of options?

See, it's such a vague statement by the seller that he would have a cop out.

Unfortunately, cannot tell much about the condition of a 355 with just pics.

Lots of discussion of GTB vs. GTS vs. Spider. For me, the GTS is best of both worlds - lines of the coupe, trackable, open top. Plus, the spider adds some complicated stuff that can have its issues. Body flex is not bad, definitely worth the open top.

I agree that the GTS is the best of both worlds. I have a 1999 355 GTS F1 and love it, with or without the targa top in place. Only problem is stowing the top (behind the seats) which cramps leg space, so I just leave it home when out for a drive. BTW, according to Ferrari, there were only 66 targas with the F1 option produced in 1999, so I feel lucky to have one of them.

Went to see and drive the rosso corsa 355gts advertised on EBAY that was located in Los Gatos, CA, 2 days ago. It was a very clean car that drove very well. The black material on the bottom of the spoiler was added on by the seller to resist stone chips. He also added 2 skid plates on the bottom of the front spoiler to resist scrape damage. He also added 3M plastic protection to the front spoiler and anterior hood of the car. In person, it was a stunning car. Over the past month, I've driven a 1995 355 Berlinetta manual with 6,000 miles, a 1999 355 spider manual with 26,000 miles, a 1999 355 serie fiorano, manual with 17,000 miles, in addition to this 32.000 mile 355 GTS manual in my search for my first ferrari. In my opinion, this early high milage 355 GTS drove as good or better than all the rest of the cars I have looked at, and it is priced much less than the other cars I've driven. I was initially not so keen about considering a car with high miles, but apparently this car has been meticulously maintained (service records seemed to be consistent with meticulous maintanance, and the 30,000 mile service was done about a year ago. After driving the car, I told the seller I wanted to purchase the car, but I wanted to get a PPI for my security. He said this was ok and provided me with recommendations to a local mechanic who may provide PPI service. I called my lender and I was approved for the loan amount of the agreed purchase price for the car. I was already thinking about my first ferrari, and could not sleep the whole next night because of my excitement. I have been dreaming about having a ferrari since I was at least 10 years old (I know it sounds corny buy I'm sure lots of you guys are the same). Hell, on a family trip to Italy in 1983, I forced my parents to take me to Modena where I was able to visit the Ferrari factory where I remember the technician letting me have brochure for a 512 BB. Anyway back to the present time...The next day after seeing the car the seller called me and told me he sold the car to another buyer, because the other buyer did not want a PPI and put down a money deposit and would drive the car away the next day. I told the seller that I really wish he would have called me back before he made the deal with the other buyer, but all he could say was sorry, but money talks. I guess I cant blame the seller too much, for he was able to sell his car as quickly and cleanly as possible, and the other buyer did not care about getting a PPI. Do you think it was appropriate for me to suggest that I would get a PPI for this type case, or was I being too paranoid, given the car had 30,000 engine out service about a year ago and was sufficient enough to forego a PPI? Should I have not left the sellers site without suggesting or leaving some sort of deposit to hold the car during the time to having the car undergo a PPI? It is so...upsetting and depressing... I feel like I've been dumped by the first girl that I fell in love with. I feel as if I need a break time before going out and searching for new prospects. Understand that I've been scoping ferrarichat, ferrarimarketletter, Hemmings, EBAY, etc. religiously for at least a year now. Has this happened to any of you guys. It really sucks. Any other suggestions on what to do for my next potential buying opportunity, so I don't get burned, again?

Next time leave a small non refunadable depost. I would not consider purchasing an F355 without a PPI due to my limited mechanical talent. It could very well be that you may have changed your mind after the PPI. These are high performance cars everything has to be dialed in, a bad header can lead to catastrophic engine failure.

355GTS in 1995 were rare. I would love one if I could find a good deal on one. Any pictures of the car in question?

"Next time leave a small non refunadable depost" I agree to a point, make the deposit dependent on the success of the PPI results, in other words, bad PPI, deposit refunded, I never hold a car for someone that does not leave a good faith cash deposit...

    No deposit no care.

I own a car lot and I sell about 15-20 cars a month but I have about 75-100 people PROMISE and SWEAR up and down they are going to purchase cars. Next time , leave a deposit and they'll hold it for you if they are an honest dealer. Make sure to get everything in writing.

Always get amazed of how many people call, get info, ask for pictures, some will come and look at the car, promise to buy it and then...NOTHING!
Sorry, but would have done the same thing, sold it to the serious buyers with the real money.

I just came across this older thread on 355 GTS production. If you go to the 355 Registry, you'll also see some production numbers posted. I once went through those and counted only 34 1995 F355GTS's produced in North American Configuration, and only 1 or 2 produced as 1994s. Mine was produced in Oct 1995, and is still considered a '95 and carries the OBD 1 configuration with dual intake runners. I believe the GTS wasn't produced until later in the production run of 1995 F355s, and thus the small number imported. I've seen North American '95 355GTSs in red, dark red, yellow, and black. I've seen two (including mine) that were supposedly delivered from the factory with a painted roof. However, I have no documentation on that for mine. The window sticker makes no note of that. Mine also came with a factory folding soft top (a carryover from a 348 option, I believe). FYI, just some 355GTS trivia....

    Wow,
Great to see that someone resurrected this old thread. Below was a post in Nov. 2008, that I made a month before I became a Ferrari owner. It is really interesting to look back in time and see back when I was actively "on the chase". When I reread my 2008 post, I could really feel the pain that I had experienced back then as a prospective buyer for an exotic vehicle. To update things, I ended up purchasing a 1997 F355 Berlinetta in December 2008. 3 years and 17,000 miles later my life has never been better.

I really feel lucky now since I also have a 99 GTS F1. That means only 64 left.
