This is actually a big reason why I prefer it to the 599. It's a small car - smaller than a 430. It's the same reason why I'd prefer a small Ford GT-40 continuation car over the large modern one, or a 330GTC to a 275GTB. To my eye, the proportions harmonize better in small cars.

No, I haven't had the pleasure yet. It might change my mind completely but I doubt it. In general, the closer a cars sound is to high-rev Formula 1 sounds the more I like it.

Perhaps my position would be more clearly illustrated through analogy.

Jimi Hendrix's Woodstock performance is beyond the shadow of a doubt one of the most, if not the most, breathtaking exhibitions of musical genius in the history of music.

Whether you truly LIKE or UNDERSTAND Hendrix's music or the electric guitar in general is beside the point. His achievements and genius with the electric guitar are undeniable and staggering because of their incredible sophistication, both technical, harmonic, melodic and improvisational.

At the same time that I stand in awe of Hendrix's brilliance, I love, absolutely LOVE the group Staind. Staind's music is simple, beautiful, medolic, harmonic and very hard rock, all at the same time.

But to compare them to Hendrix would be the same as comparing a high school football team to an NFL team.

I'm not saying the difference between the Alfa and the 599 is that great but when you view the 599 strictly from the perspective of the amount of creative and artistic brilliance and energy it required, you'll understand why I say it's in another league compared to virtually any other make, besides the Enzo and the Pagani Zonda F.

You may or may not agree but hopefully my position is clearer.

Unlike you I knew Jimi and saw him play at Woodstock. I think your analysis is pretentious bull****.

The best exhaust videos I've found on the car yet, complete with snap, crackle and pop downshifts. I'm a huge fan of high rev screams, but this is in a class of its own.

I'm definitely not feeling that car, as stated earlier proportions are too small, 599 first, GranTurismo S second, alfa 10th. sorry guys

You're a very lucky man but if you saw him you know exactly what I mean in terms of his music. Whether or not you agree with my analogy is irrelevant.

Then again, perhaps you feel the same way about Hendrix as you do the 599 and my analogy. Maybe you just don't see it or hear it. Stranger things have happened. And I've certainly been called more extreme words than pretentious.

Whatever the case your car seems to be a homerun for you and for Alfa-Fiat, which at the end of the day, is a good thing.

No need to apologize. As long as the owners love it, that's all that really matters.

I, too, find the profile proportions to be odd but I think they wanted something very compact and maneuverable with all that power. It seems like the mission was accomplished.

Thanks for that. It's a brilliant sound. I like how they've somehow made it distinct from the Maserati note.

    I still prefer the high-reving, higher pitched 8s, 10s and 12s though.

I've made the point several times in other threads, (and been highly criticized every time), that unless you are an owner, like Jim and the 8C, or very well acquainted with the car by being in the business of dealing with or servicing the specific car being discussed, your specific opinion is largely useless and has entertainment value only.
Opinions that talk to whether you would choose to buy a car based on your subjective feelings are quite valid, but opinions as to the utility of the car are useless.
At this point Jim is the only US owner that we know of and I for one defer to him regarding the 8C.

I still would not be a customer for the car at the price asked and I certainly would not trade my 599 for an 8C, but that is my very subjective opinion and it applies only to me.

Good research DM but after a brief repair-filled stint with a 740 I got an Acura 3.2 CL-S.

It does the job for the time being. I have my eyes and bank account set on a DB9.

I thought this was the entire point of the forum...discussion, some debate, and nothing but personal, subjective opinions.

I guess I was wrong. It seems people are sensitive about aesthetic discussions.

Fair enough. I think the price is ok for a unique car. After 2 599's I am unlikely to buy another one as I find the car too big for use in HK. Seems others are feeling the same way as used 599's are plentiful and buyers are few in HK.

Too bad about the 740. Great car. Good luck on your DB9 search
