I can agree with that. The idea of being able to try so many cuts and meats in one sitting was pretty cool. I thought the food was actually good in itself too.

I've been all over Spain but have yet to make it over to Girona. Not planning on going back until possibly this time next year but would love to go to El Bulli.

Have been desperately trying to get reservations there for ages!! Consider yourself very fortunate to be among the lucky few.

Some of my absolute favs, price not being a consideration:
    - French Laundry/Per Se (Napa/NYC)
    - L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon (Paris - the one in NYC isn't as good IMO)
    - Le Quartier Francais (Franschhoek, South Africa)

Hopefully I'll be able to add El Bulli to the list next year. :)

L'Atelier is a great place but to many tourists in these days and you are not allowed to extend to much the coffee and drinks after dinner. been there the last month. Do you been in Les Ormes in Paris? Grat place.

The next time you are going to Spain and be near elbulli give me a PM or email me and let see if my friend can arrange you a reservation he is frequent customer and have some sort of relationship with Ferran

Thanks, what a great offer! Shame I didn't post earlier - was in Madrid & Barcelona in August.

Have not been to Les Ormes. I've been to Paris twice now and both were short stints so did not have much time to explore the restaurant scene. Am fortunate enough to have gone to L'atelier though. Will look into Les Ormes next time I'm over there.

How lucky you are! Yes, I'm not sure what your taste is, or what pricepoint you're looking for, but I had an exceptional meal at Hotel Omm - their restaurant is Moo. Definitely on the expensive side, but food is highly innovative with a molecular gastronomy vibe to it. I believe the chef was a disciple of Ferran Adria (of El Bulli). Btw, if you have a chance to check out the hotel, it's very cool and chic.

Cinc Sentits and Comerc 24 are 2 other restaurants that I heard a lot about but never had the opportunity to go to. Next time...

If you're looking for good food with chic decor at a more reasonable pricepoint, I'd recommend a restaurant called Balthazar. They also have a great sister restaurant in Madrid called Bazaar that I'd highly recommend as well.

As for tapas, it's almost difficult to go wrong. After all, if you're not crazy about a place after the first dish, the traditional way to eat tapas in Spain is to bar hop anyway, so get up and walk down the street to the next tapas bar. Taller de Tapas is the one that a number of hotels send guests to. I had lunch there one day and thought the food was very good, but overpriced.

Hope this helps and please do let me know your thoughts. Enjoy!

Just noticed your location says you're from Spain. Hope I didn't sound condescending about how to eat tapas...

Rush- I'm spending about 4 months here in Spain, so I'm not actually from here, just changed my location. I will definitely look into Hotel Omm, but my budget may not allow it on this trip. I've heard/seen Balthazar, and I will try to make it a point to go there.

Yellowbird - Haven't heard of these but will make sure to check them out. What style/type of cuisine are they?

Thanks to both, and so far I am loving Spain. My Castilian Spanish is pretty good, but my skills in Catalan are nearly non-existent.
Hopefully I will get to work on this while enjoying the great food and wine in the area. Thanks again!

I'll have to keep that in mind the next time I'm in Seattle. I'm familiar with Daniel's but have never eaten there.

My favorite restaurant when I used to live there was the old Jake O'Shaugnessy's near Seattle Center. My favorite restaurant in the area now, though not in the "five-star" class, is a neat Bangladeshi restaurant in Kirkland called Shamiana. Their Coriander Ginger Chicken is marvelous.

My brother agreed that Langers is great, he said Brett's is another good one. Outside of Manny's, which is really far from us, we have no good Delicatessen's in Chicago.

Langer's is at 7th and Alvarado. The red line stops across the street. Best hand cut Pastrami in the city, bar none. They close at 4.
