F40 prices sinking fast? Asking below $499k and no takers

Are prices falling for the F40?
Several have seemingly low prices, even nice ones below $499k on eBay and no buyers?
#190262943848 is claimed as a concourse winner and can't get $529k

 

I know of one that sold recently for just over $400K. (It was in Charlotte--after the Wachovia blood bath.) I know he had 2 offers under $375K. The guy who handled the sale said that he was "very, very lucky" to get that price.

 

The euro was keeping F40s & other exotics up, but now the euro has collapsed

So unless the Japanese w their super powerful Yen decide to start buying exotics by the shipload

You can expect all exotics to start falling

I imagine even the super expensive vintage models will start falling as well

 

It's one of those "special" cars where price - in most cases - is secondary to ownership. I know some people who acquired their cars in the $200s and could have more than doubled their money a year or so ago but didn't even consider selling their cars simply because it was never (and will never be) about the money/values.

I don't think most F40 owners bought their cars because they were thinking ... "I'm going to make money if I buy this car and hold onto it." They bought their cars to own a piece of history, heritage, and the last supercar influenced by Enzo. Whether F40s remain at $400k, rise to $600k, or drop to $300k is probably inconsequential to most who own them.

In these hard economic times there will undoubtedly be opportunities. Could an F40 sell for $300k? Possibly. I never thought I'd see a $30,000 Maserati QP or a $105,000 360 Spider either. Unfortunately ... I have.

 

Here in Europe, all prices are coming down.
Those I see affected :
- 512BB
- 275GTB/2 (plenty on the market by miracle since the recent price hike...)
- Daytonas (the 40ths' madness is over and stupids seem to recall plenty have been made... same statement as above)
- F-50 (always been a poor second to the Mc Laren F1 it was intended to beat)
- F-40
- 275GTS (were highly overpriced these past few years)
- 365 and 330s (same...)
- Modenas
- Vetroresina 308s
Most of the recent ones.

 

The whole car market is falling....so that means that their values will drop, depending on how collectible or rare it is. Most likely, rarer F-cars wont be affected that much.

 

THEY WILL BE $250,000. IN 6 TO 8 MONTHS.

 

The days of "funny money" are gone. Cold, hard reality is the norm.

I agree completely. This economy is tanking; the world economy is following, and all our politicians want to do is to bail us out--which means even more economic distress.

 

Last time we really considered one (before we moved to Shanghai), I could have got one for ~$295k, that was only late 2003, no reason to believe that they will not go below that now. That same car is now owned by someone who has posted in this thread...

440k USD? Any stories on it? Possibly a poorly maintained Brunei car? Seems odd for it to go that low...

 

The stock market is as low as it was 10 years ago. About that time I could buy an F40 for 235k or so. I don't know if this means the 2 are connected but historically the numbers are the numbers.

 

damn, always a day late. the few I've called on recently were 950k and not budging. its a great car but thats enzo territory

You know, there is a following on the secondary market of owners that brag they have an ex-TimK car. Several of of them regulary get together and remark at how nicely it is and how pleased they are ...

 

£319,000 including premium, today that's about US$475,000. In Europe that was an encouragingly strong result. Currency fluctuations are playing havoc with a lot of commercial transactions, but for whatever reason the USA F50's have always been overpriced, or overvalued, whichever way you want to look at it.

 

come on down....there were a few cars missed on the run up so another stab at them at reasonable prices won't bother me a bit
