I had an interesting situation arise the other day when I saw a 612 Scaglietti. It was last Saturday, @ the grocery store, and the owner was still in the car. Because I had my camera on me, my first thought was to take a picture of the car. After pausing, however, I decided not to because I wasn't sure if it was awkward to do that with the owner there, or if he wanted people photographing his car at all.

What is your take on people snapping a photo of your car? On one hand I feel like it should be cool to let excited, respectful admirers get a picture, but on the other hand I understand that an owner may not want the attention, and that I should let him enjoy his purchase privately. Should I ask first? Should I let them be on their way?

I want to be clear that my question is about people standing at a distance and taking a picture, not touching the car or in any way harming it.

It my town there are two kids that walk around just talking pictures of really nice cars. Parked or driving. They have snapped pictures of my dad when he is even getting out of the car and even back in. It doesn't really bother him except they publish the pictures on the internet.

I've encountered people taking pictures of my cars. Doesn't matter to me.

The only two times I've "caught" someone taking a picture of my car, I've offrered to take the picture for them. With them behind the wheel.

I was a young car nut once, too. That's how it starts. The only difference between me and them is that I have the means now to buy a (cheap) Ferrari. We're all car guys and we share the passion.

No point in being bothered because it's going to happen anyway. Sometimes if it's a couple or maybe a kid, I even let them sit in it and take pics if I have time. Really makes somebody's day and goes a long ways towards dispelling the image of snobby Ferrari owners. If I see someone taking a picture on the road, I wave.

I would not have any problems with someone photographing my car with or without me in it, provided they are not the driver of another vehicle that is nearly causing accidents while driving and snapping photos with their camera phone, and provided the photographer and his/her freinds were not touching the car. I witnessed a bunch of women practically climb on top of some guy's M5 to pose and photograph eachother on the car! When I saw one of them point to my car and they started to run toward it, I had to leave the restaurant and ask if I could help them just before they could sit on my car for their "America's Next Top Model Photo Shoot." In the past I've happily answered questions about the car for random automobile admirers and also for a boy who was writing an article for his school paper. I've also gladly opened the doors for better photos of the interior.

    Best regards,
    Dino

I had a funny experience once in downtown Montreal. I decided to snap a picture of an SLR (owned by some russian mafia boss) as the guy was getting in the car. His bodyguards immediately ran towards me and started screaming in my face "don't take picture, dont take picture" (with the heavy russian accent) loool.

Besides that ive only had good experiences ive even had a 250GTO owner get out of his car to let me sit in it and he snapped a pic of me in it.

I have another: There will only be 100 Dodge Challengers SRT-8 in Mexico so in a supermarket I saw one, but there was a guy that was looking at me kind of angry when I get closer to the Challenger with a camara. So I decided to not take a picture.
But I don't know if the car belongs to him or if he is a bodyguard or a thief that wanted my camara :D.

When you drive automotive art, you have to expect that. It's a compliment and shows appreciation of Ferraris.

I don't photograph others cars without permission but I don't care about others photographing mine even with me in it. I usually offer to take a picture of them in it.

Once you are in the public domain...

I don't have a problem with it. Doesn't really happen all that often up here.

this thread is funny cuz it reminds me of a dave chappelle routine.

i recently bought a bright yellow murcielago. i drove it around sunday on a beautiful day. in my state, there just aren't that many of these types of cars around. so it got a lot of attention. i had more people take pics of that car on that one day, then they have taken of my red 360 in the last year.

i think it would be pretty funny if i got mad at that. here's dave chappelle on 'whores':

"The girl says, 'Wait a minute! Just because I'm dressed this way does not make me a whore!' Which is true. Gentlemen, that is true. Just because they dress a certain way doesn't mean they are a certain way. Don't ever forget it. But ladies, you must understand that is ***** CONFUSING! It just is.
Now that would be like me, Dave Chappelle the comedian, walking down the street in a cop uniform. Somebody might run up on me, saying, 'Oh, thank God. Officer, help us! Come on. They're over here. Help us!' 'OH-H0H!!! Just because I'm DRESSED this way does not make me a police officer!'
All right, ladies, fine. You are not a whore. But you are wearing a whore's uniform."

so, you may drive your f-car for your own pleasure and for nobody else and you may shun public attention, BUT you are definitely driving an attention whore's car.

    :)

Just last Saturday, I pulled into a restaurent parking lot and as usual parked away from the crowd. When I got out of the car, a kid and a girl (maybe 14), came running up to me and asked me if they could take a photo of the car. I, of course, said, 'sure, but would you like to sit in the car?' Well, talk about two excited kids, there eyes just lit up. I think it made there day.... and mine too.

I drove the 550 to the MB dealer to kick tires for an SUV for the wife. Two sales guys go over to the 550, open the door, and get in!
I walked over and said WTF are you doing?
First time they probably have seen a real car!

People have taken pics of the car while i was driving it. I dont mind at all. I still take pics of nice cars when i see them so i understand it, even if i try to take pics of just the car.
