The smaller size of the 8C makes it much more tractable on tight roads. The 600 lbs less weight also helps. The shorter front overhang makes a huge difference on the road. I really don't understand why Ferrari continues to produce cars with such long front over hang for the street which makes them unpleasant to drive on some roads and into driveways.

As for your last sentence there are more "new" 599's for sale today in the US than 8C's that will ever be imported into the US.

    Cheers

I have only driven the 8C once but I immediately liked the car - how can you not. What presence and feeling. Whereas the 599 is heavy at legal speeds, the 8C was big fun. Completely agree with your comments about front overhang. What a pain in the a_s worrying about whether the destination carpark is overhang friendly. Makes the car an A to A car when a useful car is A to B.

A few of my friends are teasing me relentlessly about liking a Gran Turismo S with a body kit but I don't care. 8C is deadly cool and drop dead gorgeous and that counts big time on my scorecard.

My 8C is on the ship and should be here in 2 weeks.

I much prefer my Scuderia over the 599 in HK. Scuderia is the best road car that I have ever driven. I am also getting a 16M Spider. I love the 599 but it just doesn't fit my needs in HK.

Thanks. I think I'll fare better with it than with the sedans. Sedans are definitely not my style, except perhaps the QP but not until wife and children are here.

QP is a great car. I had several sport GT's. Ended up moving away from QP as it is a lousy car to be driven in and it is too long to drive and park myself in HK. Boot is also very small making it a less than ideal airport car.

I'm squarely in the "never driven either" category but I have to declare my love for the 8C. As someone who is rarely enthused by the styling of modern cars, the Alfa 8C reminded me why I love these things in the first place.

Agree. We are calling it the Poseria. 3 of us are planning to take factory delivery and leave the cars in Europe for a year to blast around in. I am so happy to get a fast sharp Spider. Tunnels will be huge fun

i have not driven the 8c. but i did just pass on the spider that i was granted the option on. after i saw the price (320k chf), the price of the options i wanted (another 30k), and the wait time (q1 2010)...i decided for that price i will be able to get an f40 (already been offered a '90 at 380k chf)...and that is a better deal to me.

now whether its ultimately a better investment than a 599...might be true. there will only be 500 coupes, 500 spiders, but now i am hearing about another 100-200 of each with a more powerful engine... on the other hand, i think with the economy the way it is all the prices might drop some more.

Maybe I missed something but I'm suprised no one mentioned anything about the Top Gear episode of the 8C as well as JC's new DVD The Thriller where he rips this car apart.

Why is Clarkson saying so much BS on the 8C ? I know he is an entertainer first and foremost but there should be some truth in what he says and not just BS to get people to talk about him.

Is that 33 Stradale located in NY ?

    Yes.

Hey some people like serial killer/prostitute jokes and word play on Vag on TV channels funded by mandatory fees which if you don't pay you go to jail.

The Stradale is undoubtedly an inspiration in details for the 8c. But I think the proportions of the 8c are of a classic 1960's front-engine fastback whereas the stradale was designed as a forward looking futuristic rear-engined car...

    Love both designs though ;-)

Congrats, Jim! I hope to see either the 8C, P4/5 or your other cars rolling around in NY in the future!

After seeing the 8C and Stradale side by side. I can't help but remembering the Alfa Diva Concept - essentially the 8C mid--engine concept. The Diva was a breathtaking car as well, it would look amazing sitting next to the P4/5.

Here she is... I can't say she's beautiful like the 8C, but in spirit she's very close to the Stradale... (copyrights on photos)
