The more I flip through this thread, the happier I am with stock rims on my 308 and Mondial...

I thought the same thing when I saw these wheels (19" and 20" rear) for sale on Ebay.

I love the color scheme but the sizes are just too much for me.

I partially agree, the 308 rims are perfect, but for the Mondial case I think they are too much conservative and frankly, IMHO so dull. When you give a Mondial a chance to wear nice 18 inches wheels it makes a world of difference. 19'' its still IMVVVHO, too much.

You want to keep its OEM look and flavor, put the Compomotives,

you are looking a more modern look the 355 or even the 360 OEM wheels give good results. Not to forget the 430 Challenge BBS as seen on the Eberlein's T.

I also recently found two videos on YouTube showing Mondials with modern 18'' rims. These rims, if you look at them separately, would not be considered as obvious choices to fit nicely with a Mondial, but the result is IMHO nice.

Don't be afraid to say it's the wifes car....that car rocks! (I read the profile=)

Sadly though...IMO... the 355 wheels look just a slight bit better on a Mondi than the 348 wheels...sorry. It's probably like who is hotter...... Jenifer Aniston or Jenifer Garner...it's a tough call.

    Nice car, be proud!

Yup! Made the R & R work on them a winter project last year, and I think they turned out good.

It's a neat "period appropriate" look, in my view.

    Thanks and Cheers - DM

I just saw on this post from 10/05/2008, black 308 with 16" replica wheels: On the picture of the car's right rear wheel/tire, it appears that the unidirectional tires are mounted backwards. The grooves should force water to be evacuated outwards to prevent hydroplaning. The other tires appear to be mounted correctly on the visible pictures.

If you haven't corrected this already, I would look into it. (although not many of us drive in the rain with our cars). Otherwise I do like the classic stock looking wheels in 16".

    Take care,
    John

I found a close-up from that Fearless wheel. My wheel shop had drilled the holes and cut the right size, so spacers are'nt needed.

Quite a few rims have been shown in this thread, but I'm still very happy with my Superformance reproduction 16" rims. While strictly speaking not the stock look for a GT4, the OEM versions of these wheels were in fact factory option in Europe on the GT4 in later model years (yes, in 16" - see tavola 36 from the 1979 308GT4 part manual).

The paint one of my wheels started to crack about a year after installing it. That's about 8 months ago now. I just got a new one from Superformance. This was the first time they had the paint on one of their wheels cracking, and sent me a replacement at their expense. Excellent service!

Quite a bit has been said about the weight of these. I drive my GT4 hard and I really never noticed any negative effects of heavy rims.

They DO have a bit more offset than the 15" compomotives that I had on there previously. Result: the turning circle has grown even more because the fronts rub.... I'm at about 50 ft turning circle now, if not more... :(
