GTO with EE.085.AK plates doing what it can on the track. This appears to be 56653, World F1 Driving Champion Keke Rosberg's car...

Edward Regner decides to find out what his brand new GTO 56651 (EE.074.AK) can do under full acceleration. According to the photographer, the black lines were the length of a football field!

Thanks Marcel. Zapata also had a rather tasty Miura SV 5068...

Agreed. Anytime a GTO anywhere goes for a drive, Marcel makes a note of it ...

    efe360,

Beautiful cars! I am thinking along your lines (I have 1 of the 2) and hoping that 288's or f40's drop a bit further.

F40s are dropping. GTOs not so much. Simply a matter of their rarity...

Did I post this here already? Was silver, I tweaked the color in PS to make it my favorite azzurro CA.

I've said elsewhere that I would do this were I to get one - heck, once you're in for $500k (more now?) what's another $30k for the color you want?

Very nice. Another angle of the formerly silver GTO that was posted prior. Thanks for sharing...

I think the 959 was originaly intended to be released at the same time as the GTO (for Groupe B rallying), the prototype debuting at the 1983 Frankfurt Show, the production version being shown in 1985.
There were several teething problems with the 959s production so as a result they didn't enter full production until 1987, by which time the 288 GTO had ceased production and the F40 had commenced.
Regarding a direct competitior, I don't think there really was. You had the bonkers Ford RS 200 and Metro 6R4s purpose built for Groupe B, but the cars were getting too fast and thus too dangerous and Groupe B was banned.

The GTO Evoluzione was the real intended Group B competitor. By the time it was ready, Group B was over.

The first 200 production GTOs were to satisfy Group B homologation regulations. The other 72 (or so) were for the rich and famous :)

i dunno if thats gonna help ,,, just for the record ,,, i have seen a 288GTO in a very bad condition in jeddah ,,, the owner died and now its with her wife in the garage ,,, the car as i said in a very bad condition ,,, and was bought from alalja ,,, i talked to the head of sales man (X) of alajda ,,, and he confirmed that they did sell more than two GTO's ,,, the GTO that someone posted a pic of in al-ajda i belive is the one i saw ,,, becoz the pics that Rex71 posted does not show holes in the body for license plates ,,,

    regards
