Hi guys, I have been trying a few leads, but does anyone know where to get a Ferrari shield that can be applied to a garage floor? I suppose the obvious answer is to paint it on, but wonder if anyolese bought something pre-made, etc ... Kind regards, Mike PS. New garage pics coming soon!
if you cant find one, i would suggest using a projector aimed at the floor and trace the image of the shield fora precise look, then paint it
I'm on the garage make-over kick myself. If you decide to just paint one on yourself, looks like an easy way to do it is to use a projector and beam the graphic you want onto the surface in question.... trace the outline, then paint by numbers. Sorry if this was obvious, but I'm not skilled in this craft and saw somebody do it and found it clever.
What they said. I did this recently w.a Ducati logo at my lake garage - 'rented' a projector from Staples, bungeed it to rafters, then traced and painted. If you do it this way DO NOT turn off your computer overnight as layers dry! You will NEVER get the image to realigned w.what's on the floor. My wife free-hand(ed) this shield in the old house. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
David I have you to thank... saw your pics on another post and though was a brilliant idea! Luckily for me, already had a projector so I found an image, zapped it onto the wall, traced it, then the wife painted it in. Mine is about 3' tall... very happy with this method and the final product! Image Unavailable, Please Login I sorta thought this would be the case. I was getting a little tired of tracing (short attention span), but I also felt it would be a PITA if I turned off everything and came back later. Was just woried the ladder that I had the project attached to would have been bumped/moved.
Glad you it worked out for you Very cool I love the understated elegance of that black cav on the white wall; doesn't need the shield behind it. Were you using a laptop to feed the image to the projector or could it go right into the projector via flash card or something? If the former, all you had to was shut the projector and leave the computer on/let it go to standby. And not kick the ladder!
Take a look at omgjon's posts in the 206/246 Forum and the General Forum. He has done a number of garages, the latest in tile (General Forum). Ceramic tile! http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4374&highlight=garage&page=125 He also has engineering and PDF type drawings of various logos. He might help if you shoot him a PM. John
Thanks! Yep, the entire garage is very clean and understated... all black & white including the cars. The only red is the 360, tool chest, and creaper. I think it all turned out rather nice. Will be doing a black and white checkered floor soon; tiles are on order. I essentially did the laptop trick, only instead I used a portable DVD player that happens to also show jpeg discs. I only did this since the projector and dvd player are always used together (for "outdoor movie night"!) and I knew they worked well together. My laptop would have work equally well. While I could have simply turned everything off and left it, the ladder was situated right in the middle of a much needed car bay so I had to get it done in one shot. Heck it only took me 30-45 mins of focus-time to trace it anyway. A few days later the wife had a nice outline to fill in at her leisure.
Now THAT'S cool!!!! After I do my floor, I'm going to be hot on the topic of lighting. Some pretty good examples in that post too.
