Almost embarrassing to show the photos of my 1970 gray market 365 GTB/4 14009, one of the last with plexi nose. Picked up in a trade from Kurt Mocher's Monza Automobili in Houston in 1978. As a Captain in the USAF, I could not afford a good camera, much less a Daytona. These photos were taken just after driving the car from Houston to Clovis, New Mexico, where I can guarantee it was the only Ferrari in town. I traded Dino 246 GT 2984 for it (plus $5000) and the Dino had been the only Ferrari in town previously.

I soon discovered you could clean and wax the painted wheels, which looked really good after treatment. I replaced the weird mirror with a factory one (from FAF parts, naturally) and the 7.5" rear wheels with 9" wheels from a 512 BB. Plus removed the front license plate holder. Naturally no photos after the clean-up. Really simple car to tune and very strong with no emissions gear. Angelo Wallace sent me an English translation of the 365 GTB/4 manual in exchange for using my BB WSM to make a translation.

Would be really interested in knowing what happened to her after I traded her for a 365 GT4/BB, which I never received. But that is another story.

Marcel: Thank you very much for the infos. I cannot imagine the enormous amount of informations you retain and needless to say, I am impressed and awed. I think you deserve some sort of official titile for your contributions. Thank you again. w/ smiles Jimmy PS. I purchased this car from Jon Guikas at GTC, Marseilles, France couple of years ago.

+1 the Daytona is IMO one of the few cars that looks great in just about any colour, but dark metallics really set it off perfectly (he says again wishing the current rosso chiaro paint on 16763 wasn't in such good condition so that it could be justified to return it to the orginal Dino Blue Metallic?)

Picture of 16733 at the factory not residing in Alabama.

Someone posted the photo on FChat a couple of years ago and I recognized the serial number written on the windshield as my own.

    Small world.

Hello Drew! I remember this picture well. On a side note, did you ever end up purchasing the original slide from Ged Oakley?

Marcel- Many thanks. You are amazing. The car was white with a green interior when imported and the interior was left the original and very attractive dark green when we painted it yellow. Did not know it had been chopped. Do you know what the last production number was for the plexiglass nose? Just curious.

Do you keep the same sort of information on the newer cars?

There's some overlapping between Daytonas with plexiglass and pop-up's and it's almost impossible to say. Besides that, some cars have been modified, in both directions! Plexi modified with pop-up and vice-versa.

My database includes Ferraris from 1947 to 1976 (365 GT4 2+2 and 365 GT4 BB), all race and road cars, plus all the later limited edition supercars such as 288 GTOs, F50s, Enzos, etc. But no 308s, 328s or other more "mass produced" Ferraris.

Thank you again for posting those great pix of the yellow Daytona. Those were the days (I am getting nostalgic....)!

    All the best
