truth be told, i really like a ton of the various eras of Porsche's technologies. i had an absolute love for 997GT3RS, one of my favorite driving cars of all time; and the Carrera GT while a more modern fancy, is a total monster.
historically, i think porsche gets it right about 85% of the time. all of them are real porsches, just various flavors for whatever floats someone's boat.

968 is an amazing car 50/50 weight distribution at its time the largest 4 cyl ever produced and 97hp/liter vario cam, oil squirters. Prices have held steady over the years. Would love to own a 968CS.

What a fantastic car Jimmy! Its looks are beautiful and with a bit more power than a standard 3.6 Turbo it must be amazing on the road. Thanks for the additional info about the car.

    Best regards,

Thank you for your kind words, Dino 944. I used to own a '93 964 Turbo 3.6 (yellow) prior to this flatnose and the prior was an awesome car and this flatnose's got different character, relative to the standard Turbo 3.6. I am not saying which is better. All I'm saying is that the flatnose performance is an inspiring driving experience. Believe me, and I know I do not possess the driving skills to bring out the full potential of this car and yet this is my impression. One can cruise normal street in second gear (out of 5) at over 4000rpm and there's no stress at all. w/ smiles Jimmy

That's a great looking c2s. Put some of the turbo rims on it to fill out that nice fat ass! I love the widebody!!! So then it's agreed that the 993 is indeed the last of the real Porsche. I do love the 997 too.

Thanks. I may change the rims, but I have tried to keep it bone stock, as it came off the boat (other than suspension of course-- I have the RoW M030/Biltstein set up).

Nailed it! I have an 89 and have driven all the successors. The 993 felt like a Camaro compared to the light and tight, rawer, mechanical, feel of my car. And a 996 Turbo felt like a really powerful Jetta (and looked like one from the inside too). From what I've seen, general construction and material quality of the newer cars does not hold up anywhere near as well as the more handcrafted 89 and prior cars either. Never saw any reason to go past 89. Still waiting, but the way the 89's holding up it's good for at least another 100k mi.

996 GT3 - last of the driver's Porsches (so far). No nannies, true dry sump, clean look and design. Razor sharp.

That said, I have never driven a 7GT3RS.

Fantastic C2S. The exterior color is fantastic. If you change the rims, make sure you hang on to the original rims.

    Best regards,

I would beg to differ on the superiority of the 964 and older 911s compared to 993s. I've owned every iteration of 911 since 1968 and I feel the 993 is the best of breed. Yes, the non-power assist in the older cars keeps the feel "raw", and the weight (or lack thereof) of the early cars is a feather by comparison. But the quality, fit and finish of the coachwork on the 993 is better than any other 911 series. Handling is no comparision to the older cars with the 993s modern non-torsion bar suspension suspension, the 993 motor is stronger than the 964, and for me the capper is the widebody 993s are the best looking 911s ever built.

Someone said about the sound of the doors closing; the 993 had a solid window frame and the 996 only has glass above the door. Either done for cost cutting or to have the glass more flush.

I think "...last real Porsche" should read "Last real 911" instead. To tell other owners (914/924/944/951/968/928/996/997) that they don't own a real Porsche is ridiculous.

All I have to say is "CLINK" as the 993 is the last Porsche where the doors go "CLINK." That is one of the most magnificent sounds of all time. I also like the old Mercedes where the doors sound like a vault closing.

I guess the 993 would technically be the last real 911 if you agree with the view that with the 996 Porsche finally built the 928 it always wanted to. Which I think is pretty close to the truth.

I'm a frequent visitor to Ferrari Chat and have been reading the 993 thread with interest. I thought I'd post a picture of my 'plain Jane' 1997 C2. A beautiful car and a joy to drive. Owned since 2001, Arena Red and gray, ROW, turbo bumpers. I will own an F'Car some time, but will never sell the 993.

I would not say the 993 is the last REAL Porsche. I have a 996TT and have had 4 air cooled 911's. They're all different, and all drive great. Saying that they're the last REAL Porsche is basically saying that Porsche stands for oil leaking, quirky handling, unrefined, slow, and clunky poorly engineered vehicles. I love my old 911's, but the 996 is so much more refined, faster, and more sure footed in cornering. It even has great defroster. I love older Porsches for what they were, "a great sports car of it's time". I also LOVE the way the older Porsches look, but aesthetics don't make the difference between a Porsche and a REAL Porsche.

+1. I too have a 996TT which I sold my 355 for.. Prior to that I had a 993tt and a 964C4. Was offered a 993GT2 when I was looking at the 996TT but after a 30min test drive on some winding roads, I decided to go for sure-footedness and mod-cons in lieu of rarity (there's only about 12/13 made in RHD), the 'animalistic' greatness and my er..shorter life-span..:D (In Malaysia, cars are very expensive since we have a 300% tax on all imported cars. Depreciation sets in pretty fast on ALL these cars and at that time a 2kkm '97 993GT2 and a used 5kkm 996TT was about the same price.) FWIW though, after trawling through RL and RT and PH et all and the realization that the aforesaid GT2 is like the 'holy grail' of modern turbo-ed Porsches, I have a tinge of regret for not choosing the GT2...:(
