Im sorry, but a Nissan GT-R will never be a supercar in my eyes. Like others have said here, beating a Ferrari in a straightaway is not a hard proposition, however matching the experience of driving one is impossible. Have you guys ever driven a performance ricer? Or a flat (sounding) six P car? No thanks. FWIW, I could buy a Tesla Roadster, hit 0-60 in 3.6 (est.) and never even so much as hear the motor. I think its the entire package. The feel of the supple leather on your ass cheeks, the prancing pony staring back at you, and the sound of the muscle behind you....that an the look on everyone's faces as you blow right past them in traffic is priceless.
the article stated "and even Nissans GT-R, which are beginning to encroach into exotic car territory with their performance levels. " I dont consider Nissan's GT-R exotic car. Sorry if I have confused you or anyone else with my opinion.
agree... I've dealt with those striaghtline boneheads in the past... On another note, It seems our entry level Ferrari will become a super car after it exceeds 5.5 litres - in 15 yrs our "entry level" Ferrari could be a 6 litre v10..... they can only go so far with the 8 cylinder motors, which will mean the 8 cylinder cars will become/remain "entry level" and cars like the 430 will upgrade to 10 cylinder... I can see Ferrari being forced to produce an extra model in their line-up, just to remain in the "entry level" market...
had a chance to drive double clutch GTR ..... double clutch didn't impressive me as much as i had thought compare to the F1 trany. Double clutch is faster, but it didnt offer the manual gearbox feel like F1 especially when downshifting. If you want your Ferrari to drive you (auto mode just like Mercedes), then California is the once for you. If you want a Ferrari that is driven by you, then stick to F1.
If you're shifting at the redline even the dual clutch gearbox will not be accelerating during the shift change.
Yes. Much faster shifts, so fast that in the Cal they programmed in lag because people didn't realize the car had shifted. (The Veyron has no lag and is amazing but a touch strange until you get used to it) Wet clutches can be driven in auto mode without issue. You shouldn't lift when shifting one of these. Much faster on track.
Agreed 100% Yes, much faster. However, it is too smooth, it feels like a conventional torque-converter equipped automatic. Not appropriate in a sports car, IMO.
+1 Lucky me on boarding the mighty Scuderia! The "Superfast 2" gearbox is very impressive. Who care about double clutch? Not me for sure.
I could not agree more. I do not drive to be the fastest, most technological or most innovative. I drive for the deep, visceral experience. The less that disconnects me, the power train and the road, the better. I will always be a 3 pedal lover.
No way, people that says so are wrong. Veyron has 150 ms shift times, same as a 360. Scud 60 ms vs GT-r 200 ms.
Tech dir fedeli at ferrari says they will use DCT in A-B cars, no confirmation for A-A cars. A-B are GT´s like california, A-A track oriented cars like CS or Scud. When i read the interwiev i get the feeling F1 will be the chioice for special edition and super ferraris. You know, there is a reason F1 cars don´t use DCT...
Guys, need some urgent advice. I'm assuming you all know about the new Scuderia Spider 16M. I've been offered the car (as in, I've been asked by a dealer if I want to buy it). He said there's a car slot available and if I pay the deposit within a couple of weeks, I can get one of the exclusive 499 cars. The car will be delivered by middle to late of next year. Now my predicament with this is that I've been postponing buying the F430 coupe/spider (both of which I'm in LOVE with) because I've heard a lot of talk about the F430 successor: the F450 (?), which is supposedly due in 2010. Obviously, if I bought the F430 in 2009 and Ferrari released the F450 in 2010, I'd look a proper idiot. Now with this option of the Scuderia Spider, I'm caught in two minds. Do I go for the Limited Edition car and risk being upstaged by the next model within an year (the next model, which might also have a limited edition Scuderia Spider!) or do I wait it out until 2010 and get the F450? Any advice is appreciated. And in case ur wondering, THIS IS NOT A JOKE.
Scuderia Spider, while the F450 will be a great car. The Scuderia Spider is the car I would go with 10 out of 10 times. I don't know if you are someone who cares about resale, but it will be worth 10x in the long run.
Surely if you've already not bought a 430 because the replacement is due in two years time you will not be happy with any new car let alone the Spud because the next new one is always just a year or two away ?
Isn't there atleast a 5 year lifetime for the normal Ferrari car? So if the F450 come out in 2010, the successor won't be out till atleast 2015.
