I was coming home from work yesterday in my GTi (fine car BTW) and approached my exit on the interstate. It was one of those situations where you could dive in front of some one and likely piss them off or ease off and follow them off the ramp despite the fact they are going comically slow. Well, not that slow really , but the word "comically" came out my fingertips. Anyway, I tuck in behind this Boxster S that's lacking the usual grace of a Porsche; it was dirty, it was a purplish-brown color. The muffler was either covered with a mist of overspray or it was getting a thin rust coat. So, I tuck in behind this guy and as we get to the very beginning of the off ramp, he violently jerks his wheel right as if there was debris in the road, fast enough that he startled me. So, I applied my brake, didn't see anything and I thought maybe he was going to the shoulder for car trouble. But he wasn't, he went slowly down the ramp to the other road. I backed up a bit as I wasn't sure of what was going on with this guy. So I ride along behind him for about 5 miles and everything that vaguely happens up ahead he does this sudden emergency style lane change. Numerous times. Really strange. An then it occurred to me he was probably doing this odd behavior for the benefit of surrounding traffic so they could see how nimble and quick his car was. I'm sure everyone was thinking: what a fooking dork.
DSG, thought I'd try the paddle thing. Won't do it again. Should have known better. He was ~45 years old, glasses, unkept hair, mustache; had the look of a technical guy that might work at a hospital or factory maybe.
You can not possibly fathom how stupid the average American driver is on the highway. I encourage you to ridealong with a police officer and help him direct traffic for 30 minutes anywhere in the US---You will fully realize how stupid people are.....People will use your traffic cones as a slalom, drive around them, drive into the wrong lanes to pass, drive into the grass median--it is some of the dumbest sh$& I have ever seen.....
Just last week I saw a car try and overtake his mates car going round a corner. The car was a v6 supercharged Holden VX Commodore Berlina, and had 20inch chrome wheels on it (baad car) There was terminal understeer as smoke poured off the tires. It'd be about this time he would have realized he wouldn't make it round the corner, and hit the kerb at 80km/h and went through someones fence into their backyard. As he hit the kerb at 80k's i saw the tyres pop, the front bar smashed up and the rim buckled. As has been already mentioned, there are LOTS of stupid drivers out there!
