The word "Sick"

That's been used on the east coast for years. In San Fransisco they say 'hella', in Massachusetts it's 'wicked'.

It's pretty cool how languages evolve

 

And in other places it is Hella Wicked Sick.

 

I've been hearing it out there for the last 10 years at least, probably more like 12-14.

 

I remember when the "King of Pop" taught us that "bad" is "good".

Everyone in Australia says it. The ultimate saying is "THAT'S FULLY SIC". It happened prob 10-15yrs ago.

"Sick!" implies that something is crazy cool, something awesome, or something extremely new and entertaining.
My theory is that the word is an evolution of the exclamation "insane!" or "that thing is insane!" when someone is describing something so awesome that it is irrational to think someone would do that or own such a thing. It is highlighting the "crazy" part of "crazy cool". Since insanity is a form of sickness (mental health), a new variant of "insane!" evolved in the young person's jargon and became the exclamation "sick!".

I've said things are "sick" since before high school. Don't know where I heard it though.

Wicked pissa!!!

 

And the baseball world likes to over-use "nasty". Nasty curveball, etc.

 

People still say 'deez nuts!'? I thought that died years ago.

Now, ones I have used to agree with people are "I know, right?" and "Boy, I'll tell you what.", the second of which counts as a complete sentence in some southern states.

 

I only use 'deez nuts' when someone says, "These what?"

 

As does the lacrosse world. I think any sport with teenage boys will us slang: nasty, dirty, sick, etc.

 

"Sick" is just a limited version of "wicked" or "bad". I don't use it as it reminds me of "hurl."

I use this word sometimes, mostly because some friends started using it i assumed i knew what it meant... i did and just found myself using it too.

 

I use it a lot, then again i'm a [fairly] typical 21 year old. My mum HATES when i say it though. Its pretty funny

 

As soon as someone says "sick" I know exactly how old they are

you might be 60 years old if you still say "that's swell"
you might be 50 if you say "groovy"
you're in your 40's if you say "cool"
maybe 30's if its "bad"
I'm guessing you're about 20 if you use "sick:

its all the same word, just changing times. So remember... the next time you say "sick" you might as well be saying "that's swell" to your grandfather

 

I say something else that could be considered offensive instead of "awesome," "sick," or "awesome."

But, that's just me i guess
