so, I'm getting serious about starting my compound in Argentina Can you suggest some websites that can explain how to go through all the phases of construction ? 1st thing I need to do is have the site prepared its on a flood plain w 300 yards of riverfront but there is no govt to whine about me filling in wetland, no permits required, no EPA etc So what is the best filling material to build the land up that wont be washed away in a flood ? rocks, sand, bricks ? I dont have much of a clue I suppose you need to know what will be on it 1st, the property is around 30 acres now and I may be able to add another 25 acres next door w another 200 yards of riverfront So it will have a main house, maybe 5 - 10,000 sq feet w a large stone outdoor patio w an inground pool, just think Playboy Mansion replica more or less there will also be other structures on the property such as buildings for the guesthouse, theatre, power station, gardeners, cooks & maids, guard house, well, garage big enough for 6 cars and large bus, gym, armory. Also plan on having solar panels on top of all buildings so I'll need a building to store all the batteries for the solar system and maybe a water turbine in the river to take advantage of the current for free electricity behind all this far from the river I plan on having a small farm to raise corn to make my own biofuel and have 2 cows and a few chickens, will probably use their waste as another form of fuel Here are some photos of the riverfront Thanks Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I don't know what aggregates are available in that area but I would do the sea wall with rip raf and fill the area behind it with shale, large shale. On top of that use crusher run aka runner crush wet it in and tamp the **** out of it. Are you going with slab construction?
Yes to slab, its like Florida, you hit water if you dig 1 foot what is rip raf & runner crush ? Thanks
Rip raf is huge chunks of limestone and crusher run is small peices of limestone with the limestone dust mixed in. After you wet it and tamp it, it will harden like concrete. Then some top soil on the top and a lawn. Will my fishing pole and myself get an invite?
http://www.saybuild.com/ http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/ BTW, you might wanna put the house on stilts being that close to the water, unless you like flooded rooms
Although geared towards "facilities" this website has some excellent information on sustainablity. http://www.wbdg.org/design/sustainable.php
Thanks for the link Thats why I want to lift the whole property 1 or 2 meters I'll also have a seawall and behind that a 3 meter wall around the compound so hopefully water wont be too much of an issue if everything is done properly
If you don't do the rip raf you will have erosion if there is any type of current or tide which is almost always the case unless you build next to a pond.
Thanks, looks like I'll be renting some construction equipment, trucks, payloaders, graders and buying several tons of rif raf and shale, boulders etc
Wow, I want to come over. lol My fathers side of the family lives in Mendoza, where are you planning to build?
