This evening I was watching an episode of Storm Chasers when I was surprised to see a scene in which the T.I.V. first backed up then turned around and finally drove the wrong direction on an interstate in the midst of oncoming traffic. It is my understanding that the primary goal of the T.I.V. is to obtain a shot of a tornado impact for an IMAX film. I applaud these men’s dedication and willingness to risk their lives for the thing they are passionate about, however by their actions in the last episode they made themselves a hazard and put others lives at risk. This is completely unacceptable behavior. I do not believe I am alone in saying a film is not worth risking the lives of innocent bystanders. I am very disappointed in the Discovery Channels continued support of these people when it has shown itself as such a socially responsible organization in the past.

So why are you telling us as your first post, instead of contacting the Discovery Channel and expressing just how offended you are?

+1, I guess s/he's asking about our reaction to it though.

I didn't catch the episode, and I'm sure I am not the only one who missed it. Perhaps interceptorb4c would be a good enough sport to find a clip of the offending material and post a link to it. :)

Those soul-less hacks from T.I.V., with their corporate-funded gizmos and reckless approach. Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton with show them!

I also didn't catch the show. I watched one episode, and it was really annoying. Just because I lived in Minnesota and have been in a couple of tornados, one right next to my house, I watched it from the basement.

    :D :D
    What's that from?

Twister of course, silly! Its the scene where they're in the Dodge on the levee, and they have cows floating through the air due to the tornadic activity surrounding them. A real BS scene that caused the movie to lose credibility IMO.

Twister was shot in and around my hometown... Both Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt stayed in houses rented for them there... the crew stayed at the Holiday Inn, etc.

If you've ever seen or been in a level 4 or 5 tornado (I have), I don't think you would call BS on the cows... unless you've seen it, you simply can not appreciate how strong the wind is....

Yeah, I think TNT and USA Network really drove that film into the ground with the number of times it had been shown... kind of like Speed.

Ok, so the goal of the TIV is to actually GET HIT by a tornado. As in, have a tornado (along with all the debris that goes with it) hit you. I'm not sure about the whole driving the wrong way in the highway thing, but it seems that the whole premise of the show is just as dangerous as that one section.
