Agreed Andrew. Its been said here before that some can spot a GTO a mile off. However, the car's sublime lines lend itself to a more discerning crowd and I daresay I wouldn't be shy to drive one in today's economic climate, but Im not sure the later bewinged supercars are socially acceptable for the moment (not that owners of them would care). Ive seen the GTO referred to by an English journalist as 'The Thinking Man's Supercar' and I can see why. Sublime, subtle, and with a hint of ferocity. If I were driving one and someone were to say "Thats a nice 308", in the name of discretion I would probably just nod in agreement But in truth, the car is so radically different it would take a good publication to cover the diferences in chassis, engine, suspension, wheels, brakes, bodywork & interior. For me, the difference between a 308 (which I also love by the way) and a 288 GTO is like the difference between a Shetland Pony and a Thoroughbred racehorse. Sure, they're both horses... but the breed is where the similarity ends. .
Looks like a totally perfect car. Too bad its sitting in a garage doing nothing. I bet if it was actually driven it could spit some mean flames from those huge exhaust pipes.
Question for you guys... Why are the guages not all the way down to their respective zeros? Like the stop is positioned so that the needle can't go all the way down to zero rpm or zero kph... Why is that?
First time I am looking at this thread. Are there more pics of the 288GTO racing in '85 at Zandvoort with nr. 150?? I know Ben van Bavel used to send me pics, maybe there some more. Twice the Ferrari Club Nederland had a unique first; the 1985 "all" 288GTO race and in 1989 the first ever "all" F40 race. The "all" because we did allow a few other cars in to make up the grid. The 2 cars in NL were NF-13-RF and NJ-89-LH (s/n 53319) still both in Holland, although 53319 did a tour in the US when I sold it, but came back to Holland and is in a great collection. The 288GTO was in fact an easier car than the F40, you could really travel with it, and I think, having owned both, I wouldn't mind getting another 288!! Funny to realize that the 400 bhp of the top-Ferrari in 1985, is less than the cheapest Ferrari now; even the F40's 478 bhp is less than a regular 430............
Hi hhh Here's your 53319 with Dutch plates NJ-89-LH at the Ferrari Club Benelux meeting in Luxemburg 1986. COPYRIGHT MARCEL MASSINI Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

In any way is a magnificent collection /museum / garage ?!?!?!? May i appreciate another splendid gem: an inmaculate and rare SVJ.
Hello Hans, Great to see you joined (also nice contributions to the 250 lm thread)!!! Don't remember which pictures I sent you at the time, it was a long time ago. Check out Joe's site for some of my pics of that day in 1985 in Zandvoort. http://www.joesackey.com/Galleria/ I joined the Ferrari Club España and participated in some events with my 328 GTS, but it's nothing like the good old FCN meetings. Hope you don't mind I posted pictures of your car. It would be interesting to know if owners in general object to, or dislike the publication of pictures of their Ferraris. Met vriendelijke groeten, Ben
