I'm hearing a base price of $225. Seems a little too high for this car?
I wonder if the California US price (as well as other Ferrari models) will reflect the strengthened US dollar versus the Euro in the past 12 months. The euro has declined in value against the dollar by over 20%. It's logical that wholesale prices from Ferrari to their US dealers should decline by a similar amount. On a $200,000 wholesale cost that is over $40,000.
My dealer was somewhat disappointed to hear $225k as a base price. The base price is still "unofficial" but I wonder if Ferrari is throwing that price out to see the responses? It makes the Scuderia seem like a bargain.
Do you have any sense of whether any of the options, like the Delphi dampers or the fully electric seats, may be standard on the US cars to try to justify an otherwise obscene base price?
If Ferrari sets prices in Euro, then the US price would be a function of the currency rates. Therefore if the dollar got stronger, meaning it took fewer dollars to buy the same amount of Euro, then the US price would come DOWN, by the same 20%. Looks like the currency 'wonks' did the calculation in reverse. I agree with you, this car should be priced less than $200K.
This video on youtube says 176E which = $221. That does seem kinda steep for a front engineed V8 that does not photograph well and does not outperform the 430 Spyder is pretty close in price from what I can find. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bKT9JbpO0U&feature=related
Darth.... once again you made my day! Actually, I think that price is too high. I'm going to find out the real deal tomorrow -- maybe. And, in fact, I think the car is overpriced vs other cars in the GT marketplace. This ultimately may be it's achilles heel. I would like to add that thank goodness this planet doesn't have a lot more of me clinging on to it. We are all much better off. One is certainly enough, as my various ex-girl friends have told me many times. In fact, sometimes they wished there were none.
I would be very surprised to see a base price north of $200k. Maybe when it's all said and done a well optioned California will be in the region of $225k but that's just a guess.
It is hard to estimate the US price using Euro figures. I think you will find that MSRP for a Eurocar is more than MSRP for a US car when you do the currency conversion. The dollar has made 15% gain on the Euro over the past 2 months. Let's hope this will be considered when Ferrari sets it 2009 prices. (I recall they bumped US prices when the dollar fell to 1.25 against the Euro.)
If they are going to sell thousands upon thousands of these a year as planned the starting point needs to be like $195K and the optioned out price nearer $215K.
225 is insane for this car base price IMO. I love the car don't get me wrong, but I love it at about 180k. Not that I have that or the 225 to spend either way at the moment, but I just don't see me spending the 225k on this one if I had that money to spend on a car. If I had 225k like others have said I would much prefer the 430 or something else.
$200k is possible if the rear seats were actually usable. Having see the car in flesh at the LA Autoshow, it would appear the rear seats are not much bigger than the ones in Lexus SC430. (big enough for a computer bag or a chihuahua in a dog carrier) The trunk space is huge for a car this type, but somehow that's actually a turn off for me. I was hoping to be able to pick up a California for MSRP in 09, but at $200k+ it might not even worth the MSRP.
At the LA auto show press conference, Mr. Parlato stated that the California will go on sale in June 2009 with a price of around 200K USD. You can see the video on youtube.
I share your thoughts. This car should be 180K tops. 225K you got to be kidding. And I like the car, too.
My understanding is the UK list was quoted at the Sicily launch as £ 143 000 which before tax is £ 121 700 which comes out at around USD 180 000 pre tax
Let's hope that Ferrari will be pricing the entire line a bit lower! They have been pretty agressive raising prices over the past 5 years. I think that in 1999, the 360 coupe 6 speed had a base price of 128K!
