    Fiery car crash shocks residents

Dubai: At least one man died when the sports car he was driving spun out of control and burst into flames on Shaikh Zayed Road last night, trapping him inside.

The crash and resulting fireball at about 9:54pm brought residents in nearby apartment buildings and passing motorists running out with fire extinguishers, while traffic ground to a halt.

Paramedics and police officers at the scene could not approach the burning vehicle as the fire was too intense.

Finally, a water tanker had to be brought from a nearby construction site to put out the fire.

Distraught friends were seen circling the burning shell, weeping openly and lashing out at any passers-by who stopped to take photographs of the accident.

A bystander who witnessed the accident told Gulf News the man had been speeding.

take care guys speed is not everything ...

And as I drive by our High school I see 17 year old kids with new Mustangs and BMW's. I am already designing my sons car a 1970 four cylinder (one wire pulled out) Volvo with diamond plate welded all the way around and a flashing light.

When I was in high school, I wanted sports cars, fast cars and the like. My parents limited me to a 80 HP four banger! Looking back, that was one of the best decision they had, cause I nearly killed myself many times even with my 80HP car that had a top speed of around 90mph. Had they given me a high power car....I know for sure I would not be here today!

As for my kids....some rule will apply.

Someone driving crazy in Dubai? There's a surprise.

+1, I got a 100k mile Honda Accord as my first car; the one time my mom let me drive her V8 sedan, I of course picked some friends up, it started raining and next thing you know I'm spinning sideways through an intersection because I was being stupid. Fortunately it was late in the day or I would have been t-boned by traffic heading the perpendicular direction for sure.

    God be with his family.

I did not see anything in the article that indicates his age was a factor in the accident...

It is sad, but it doesnt come as a surprise. No offense to anyone of UAE here, but some of the young rich boys out there drive like complete loonies, as if they're invinsible.

I completely agree with sending your kids to advanced driver schools, hell, MAKE them do track days as well:D. Its fun and you learn how your car behaves...

I often hear people say 'you cant have a fast car when until you're 21, you will crash it otherwise'. I find these comments completely stupid because you dont suddenly gain super powers on controlling a car when you reach 'the magic age'. Its all driver training. If you do serious driving like track days from since you're driving or before that, you will have more car control than someone who has driven a 80hp **** box for all those years.

Again, its a shame the guy had to die at such a young age.

You sure you want to do that? 16 year olds don't constantly die in car crashes because of lack of driving skill. They crash because they think they are invincible in the car. They would learn more from a trip to the city morgue to see the results of thinking they are Mario Andretti.

    ^ My thoughts exactly.

Speaking from the eyes of a teenager I can say that I am happy my dad didn't do anything like sending me to a skip barber school. i feel like i would be more likely to try to push my car to its limit if i had done an advanced driving school. I understand the idea of saying you should know the limits of your car but as a young teen or even myself pushing the ripe old age of 20 ;) there's no reason for you to need to push your car like that. There is a time to learn how to drive your car at the limit and how to handle it when it gets frisky but IMHO as a teenager is not the time, inspires too much confidence. I feel like giving the kid a big boat of a beater is a much safer plan.

But of course that is just my opinion. Not trying to tell anybody how to raise their kids. :)
