I know many memebers of FerrariChat are into or have made custom models. There is a section for the larger custom scale models. But, I know many of us on here who like to make custom Hot Wheels or Matchbox 1:64 scale models. Some of us simply Sharpie the rims black, others go full out with interior swaps, sanding, body repaints, custom decals and wheels etc. I am not ready to try and customize my 1:18 scale models, but a 1 dollar Hot Wheel will not break anyones wallet, especially if you screw it up. I for one would love to know how to customize my cars further more than to Sharpie the rims black. Many people get into customizing 1:64 Hot Wheels..

So here is thread for amateurs who like to customize 1:64 scale cars. Tell us what you did and how you did it, and most importantly, post pictures!

I know this sounds stupid, but it looks really cool. Take a Sharpie to the outer rim of the Hot Wheel. Something that simple, really adds depth to the car.

My plan to replace the tampo logos on my 1/64 F430 is to get water-transfer decal paper at Hobby Lobby and try printing out my own nose emblem and shields...

This is my 1948 Ford Rat Pickup that I did a couple years ago. I have only customized a couple 1:64's and this was my second project. My 1st being a 360 wheel change that I have posted before.

This was put out about 6-10 years ago by Racing Champions.

    What was done -
    1) Drilled out Rivit and then taken down to all parts.
    2) Took a couple of Jada Rat Rod PT Cruisers down to parts.
    3) Ground out chassis of '48 to lower it.
    4) Took Truck Body and painted Primer Black.
    5) Took Red Rims with White Walls from 1 PT and installed them.
    6) Took seats from PT for buckets in the cab. had to slightly modify for fit.
    7) Took 1 wheel pin and bent it slightly then installed it to use for Stick Shift.
    8) Put back together.
    9) Used 1 Chromed Steely Rim with White Wall Tire to replace crappy 1 that was origionally used to mount Chassis to have the look of a spare on the bottom.
    10) Glued where rivit was drilled out. Needs to be re-done using something else. No longer glued.

    Not bad for a 1st attempt.

That looks awesome Todd! And thanks for the step by step, I was hoping someone would post them. Also, very clever how you put the extra wheels and surfboards in the bed.

The extra wheels I thought added a cool touch. Then I took the surfboards from 1 of the Hot Wheels I had floating around. Now I have both in it at the moment.

With metal bodies, you can use any number of paint strippers. Lacquer thinner and an old toothbrush do a great job. Just soak it for a while then scrub off the tough spots.

Austin, that looks really cool! How did you put those wheels on there? What about the red lip?

Those cars must just be dusty, because they look like they've been through hell and back lol.

And your 14 right? Great stuff dude..
