I have a small problem with the alarm on my 98 355 F1 A little background. The alarm system worked properly except that the LED light was on while driving. I researched the threads and found that the problem is most likely the battery inside the siren module. I contacted Bruce Wellington, a member of Fchat , ordered a replacement battery and installed it. When I first started the car, everything was perfect and the light went out. I then shut off the ignition and tested the system. Everything works as it should. Then when I started the car for the second time, the light came back on again. Thinking there was a lose connection I removed the siren and rechecked my work. Everything seemed OK, so I re-installed the siren, started the car, all is good!. Shut off the ignition, re started, light back on again. Rather than removing the siren I simply removed the connector to the siren, waited a few minutes, started the car and everything is normal. The problem is that when I start the car after the siren has been re-connected, it operates properly on the first start only, on second start, the light is back on. Have I missed something? Do I need to clear any fault codes even though none are present. Does the alarm need to "re learn" much like the ECU after a battery dis-connect? Thanks for any suggestions.
I own a '99 355 F1 Spi. Sometimes the light stays on, some times it stays off? The alarm seems to operate normal otherwise. Can you tell me where the alarm batt. is found? Thanks, Poor man
It is sealed into the siren assembly itself. You can attempt to replace the batteries and reseal the unit, or purchase a new one. Yours will look like this: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=207296 or this: http://www.ricambiamerica.com/product_info.php?products_id=208401
Update: This is what happened last Sunday. The weather was beautiful here for November, sunny and plus 6C. We could very easily have -20C or colder and lots of snow. As far as I am concerned, every day that is nice enough to go for a Sunday drive at this time year is a gift. So I started the car, let it warm up and my wife and I went to fuel up. The red light was off. We stopped at the Shell station, shut the car off, filled up, restarted the car and now the light is OFF, and has not come back on again! Even after many re-starts. I have no idea why it is off now. I just glad it's off. If it does come back on again, I will just go ahead and order a replacement from Ricambi.
What type of batt. did you use to replace it? What did you have to do to get to it? Thanks, Poor boy PS. Glad to hear that your light is out now!
My guess is your dome light switch is frozen so its not triggering your interior light, why does this matter... because that is what tells the alarm computer that you have opened the door so it should trigger the alarm immobilizer
Hey Carm, I think you are on the right track as per my sled. I have a (minor) prob. with my dome light. I will check into it, Thanks. I also noticed that my Cig. lighter is INOP as well :0) Power check tomorrow........... On the other note, I have pulled the pain in the arrsss alarm and I would like to replace the remote batt. if there is one? It's a sealed unit (I hate that about new cars). Where do I cut? Or slice and dice? Anyone brake one apart lately. Or do you all just Buck up to Ricambi for $$$? Thanks, Poor Boy
Hi Jeffrey, J. Salmon wrote a very detailed thread on this very subject which you will find here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=136309962&postcount=6
Hi J, I looked at your thread and your alarm is very different from mine so I will tell you what my '99 has for an alarm. My alarm was easley cracked open like a clam shell. I just used a coping saw around the seam. Slow and easy. It just fell apart from there. Then I could see the batteries (2) 22 mm x 11 mm made in Ger. I am told that they are 3.6v each. I found that one was at 3.2, the other at 3.8v. The contacts looked very bad so I cleaned them up, not being able to order or find new ones anywhere, I started to make up my own out of (2) 23 mm 3v, and one 1.5v = 7.5 I think it should be 7.2v However, I chose to just reinstall the old batts because thay are not that far down and I am going to look into the door dome lght not working all the time and see if that is what my (red light on while driving) prob. is? I used a hot glue gun to put it back together. Then flam treated it for shine. It looks great and I can get back into it at a whim if in fact I need to replace the batts. Tip one for you first timers: You want to loosen both left and right nuts holding the alarm horn to the braket about 4 full turns then just wiggle and slide the horn out as the bolts are of the flat square type. Save hundereds on a horn and change your oil instead :0) Thanks, Poor man
