I know that there are only three (of 21) L88 Corvettes left. I was wondering if I could get some photos and info on these cars. I have a relative that owned one, and am wondering if it is one of the three left.

    Thanks!

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by 3/21 left? Could you be more specific? Maybe 3/21 with racing history...?

At Bloomington Gold this summer there were A LOT of L88 vettes. They had a special tribute cruise around the event (led by a new ZR1). If I remember correctly there were just about, if not over, 100 L88's in the cruise. There was even one that had been raced in LeMans driven by the two guys who raced that car. Pretty cool.

I have a couple videos, but they are on my laptop which is being fixed right now.

Not sure about 3 out of 21 figure. there were 200 made; 20 in 1967, 140 or so in 1968 and 20 in 1969. I have a thread titled 'winter project 68 corvette convertible', where yesterday i posted an original l88 cam that i will be putting in a 427 block...

    Love the L88!!!

Not included in the amazing group; there was another 1967 L88 that only had 12 original miles. That car was a red coupe. It was found by Ed Lincoln of 'Lincoln's Corvettes'. The owner purchased the car to drag race it. First he took it apart, removing the motor and preparing the car to race it. For what ever reason the car was never raced or even put back together. Ed found the car through a police officer who had done an inspection for (an annual sticker?) and told Ed about the car in 1975. At first Ed didn't believe the 12 mile part of the story. The owner was very secretive and had the car hidden away in a garage but not at his home. When Ed finally got to see the car it still had a large portion of the factory window sticker attached to the side window. There was no question it was a 12 mile 1967 L88 in factory red.
This is not the same red 1967 L88 as the one that was found in Michigan. That car was ordered by a Pontiac Division exec for his son to drive...

My guess is that car has to be worth a couple million dollars easily.

Three or four years ago it was sold for just $750k. Probably one of the most coveted L88's out there but then the owner also has one of two ZL-1 Corvettes.

There was talk of a Riverside Gold 1969 ZL-1 roadster in Ohio years ago by someone who had seen the car and was writing a book...

There were four built, two coupes and two convertibles. One of the convertibles featured a TH400 and was tested with slicks to run 10.96@132mph. The two convertibles were said to be crushed so I wouldn't doubt that there is one that never made it to the crusher.

I remember a magazine article years ago that showed a 1966 L-88. Supposedly the only one in existance.

Is there any place where one can peruse the Bloomington Gold Collection? I'd like to see what other cars are there.

Roger Penske ran the 1966 L88 coupe at Daytona. The car has since had a total perfect restoration done by Corvette Repair.

However before that Corvette came along Chevrolet Engineering built another L88 Corvette. Back in 1965 a prototype 1965 Corvette coupe was kept in Michigan. Since the car was to be crushed it was the perfect basis to test a new motor. The coupe was stripped of all excess weight and an L88 motor including headers was installed. Then a road trip! One lucky fellow on short notice got to drive the car all the way from Michigan to the General Motors test facility in Mesa Arizona. There were a number of tests run at the track including high speed braking tests. However the first L88 Corvette was later crushed when it was no longer needed.

You mean the Hall of Fame? I haven't seen anyone put together all of the inductees. Several cars are awarded Hall of Fame every year. The guy I do Corvette work for on the side has a '71 LS-6 that was inducted in 2007.
