    Hi group,

my question is not only related to Ferrari but maybe someone has an answer:

Why do GTC - cars (like f430GT or MC12Corsa) have yellow tinted headlights instead of the usual "white" / clear ones?

    Thanks for your input, Jens

Different classes -- that way slower drivers can identify the quicker cars by color of headlight watching in the rearview mirror and can pull to the side.

ACO regulations mandate that the GT cars have yellow headlights - which is achieved by using yellow film that covers the regular headlight. The leader light system also distinguishes the classes. LMP1 cars have red position lights and red numbers; LMP2 cars have blue position lights and blue numbers; GT1 cars have green position lights with green numbers and the GT2 cars have yellow position lights and yellow numbers. I haven't read the regs yet to see what the GT3 cars require.

Ok, so taking this even further, what's the black tape over the lenses of older race cars such as original Minis? Same reasons?

To not crack the headlights or something like that in case a chunk of whatever flew up and hit the light.

Semi correct. It's to keep a shattered headlamp from falling out onto the track or a cracked headlamp getting worse.
