How much would an 04/05 Cayenne cost to maintain? I own a 2005 350Z but I want something more winter-capable. I will also be hauling more stuff nowadays and would like more room and more passenger capability. The Cayennes have taken a nosedive into my price range due to people trying to drop them left and right, and I'm starting to consider them. Are they reliable enough to where they are sane to drive out of warranty?

Obviously it depends on miles and service history. If you are talking about a base model or the loaded Turbo S....
But in general, I have not seen many if any major failures in the past year. You will have your much higher cost for brake replacement ( vs your current car ) Oil Services every 10k/12mths ( $200. or less ) but overall they are well made vehicles.

As with any product, there are those with good and bad experiences, I am coming from the other side of the desk ( Porsche Service Department side ) and am only sharing my opinion of what I see overall vs one offs.

If you need any pricing detail, drop me a PM, I would be more than happy to help.

They seem fairly solid, a few minor issues from time to time in the service sheets but nothing that will sink the model, watch out for the brakes like mentioned above, people seem to stop in their usual distances from leaving their car and stepping in the SUV's and that will wear the brakes quite a bit more since they're heavier.

They are rock solid trucks, and the only issue you will have (if it has not already been rectified) is 3 engine coolant tubes which are "conveniently" located under the intake manifold.........they are plastic and will eventually crack.........the new updataes ones are metal. The water pumps also fail eventually..........

the early ones had some electronic glitches. i had a 06 cayenne S and then went for 07 cayenne turbo. i did not have any issues with either car. rock solid and ultra reliable daily driver.
that's really what you get from porsche even on the higher strung performance cars as gt3RS and gt2......daily driver reliabilty from a solid platform with minor service requirements.

i have bought 6 porsches from new and never had to even take any car in for oil service as the first service interval is at 30k km's which i had covered in none before selling. so 6 porsche's cost me zero in service....pretty good hah ? :D

non scheduled were rotor change on the cayenne S as I had some kind of vibration when braking (covered under warranty) and a faulty awd sensor on the cayenne turbo (warranty item).

other than that it was and is happy driving....

Have an 06 S other than tires very 15 K miles and yearly service no issues what so ever. A month ago I was driving 70 in a pouring rain. An inch of water on the highway. The traction control light blinked once then it sounded like I was driving on rumble strips. Slowed down the noise got louder. Pulled off the side of the road and discovered a complete failure of the left rear tire. Tread completley separated from the sidewalls. No drama no instability never felt out of control. Will get another one when time to raplace.

How about the turbo v the other pepper cars? Doesn't the turbo allow on-the-fly height adjustment? Does the additional power cause problems?

    Dale......

    I had a turbo for a year.

A set of brake pads all around, 4 rotors and a set of 19" tires later after a mere 15,000 kms.......cost me $3,800......as well as $150 a week in premium fuel. I drove it need less to say.....but still......

Never again. The V6 is the way to go.

Interesting. Isn't the height adjustment available only on the turbo? If so, I guess it is not that big a deal.

height and ride control is available on all cars that have air suspension. standard on the turbo.
no problems with the power.....just more grins per mile.

i had an S for 8 months and then went for the turbo....never looked back. this car is so stable it could do with quite a bit more hp.

i have to diagree, unless it's a hauler. if any kind of enjoyment is to be had than it is at least the S and turbo better yet.
my turbo is now at 20k km and my brakes are still going strong. changed tires at 10k km....but that's just me. thread was still good.

    there are better alternatives than a C V6. X-5 or X-6 diesel.

a cayenne with a v6 is only cayenne on the outside :D

    Fair enough.

It all depends on what you are going to do with it obviously. Too me it now is a truck/SUV and would get driven accordingly......I pounded on my Turbo like it was a 911 that I was driving, and paid the price in repairs and fuel.

I've had 5 cayennes and aside from the turbo maint issues are pretty much nil. Even the turbo issues I had were mostly my doing; that was upgraded to a gemballa 650 so it ate u-joints and was starting on the transmission. all in all the cayenne S is the best of the lot IMO.
