I hate to sound like an eye doctor, i.e., is this better or that better, but Skip canceled the 2-day race school at Road Atlanta. Because I have some credits that I can only use for the schools, I was wondering what your opinion of Sebring v Laguna Seca might be?

FWIW, Sebring will be the full course, not the Skippy short course.

Also FWIW-II, I have run Laguna Seca a couple of times and flat out love it. But having done so, I know the Skippy line in the MX-5 cars. I just need to be able to drive it!

Finally, FWIW-III, the 2-day school will be following by a race weekend, and Skip is offering discounts for the race.

    Your thoughts?

Sebring, more history than you can shake a stick at! Turn One is AWESOME!

Just make sure you have applied a ton of Fix-A-Dent. Your teeth will rattle out over the concrete and you may pee blood after several days there! <grin>

I like it because it's FAST, Dale. Faster than Laguna. Plus in the MX-5, it won't be too rough.

Just e-mailed you with my contact info. Speak to you soon.

I'll be down at Sebring in March for three weeks.

Dale, have you ever run at Sebring? Ever been there? Peter's right, the walk down the pit lane, underneath the constructor names, fills you with a sense of the history of the place. Sort of reminds me of the old pits at Mosport, for some reason.

Now, Sebring the town is not Carmel, to say the least. But Sebring the track is one of my favorites, a great mix of high and low speed, with some memorable, old school, very not Alan Wilson/emasculatrack corners. I very strongly recommend it to you. If you can, stay at the track motel, with a room on the track side.

What's the name of the hotel at the track? Are rooms hard to get for the 12 hrs?

Chateau Elan? I see the Panoz car in the lobby. Is this owned by Dr. Panoz?

Raced at both as many have here. Sebring's got some fun turns and the super long back straight. It's flat as a pancake, though, with no elevation changes, but as ProCoach points out, the concrete surface is washboard.

Laguna's great and different than Sebring, but if you've driven it, why not try something new?

Was built by him. Sold off or subcontracted out years ago.

    Pls resend. The MX-5 race is 3/31 - 4/1.

Sounds great. Hope to see you there.

This is why I like the Skippy program. I'd rather beat up someone else's car!

Skippy is not the only one out there that offers Arrive and Drive cars.

Rooms available today. 1 week minimum. My wife's a travel agent. She talked to a sales manager and they may bust some of these rooms out at 2 or 3 day packages. She's on a call list as someone who might be able to book a few rooms for them.

    Dale,

Do Sebring-I love Laguna and it is far and away a better place "off track" than Sebring ("shudder") but every driver needs to run Sebring (long course) at some time. It will give you a taste for what real racing use to be like. Just don't expect Carmel and 17 mile drive!

I've driven both, but I'd have to say I've always had way more fun at Sebring. You can feel the history "literally" when you get there. I mean you are driving on the oldest surviving road course in North America. If you drive it right and fast it will beat the **** out of you and you will feel you are going to fly off the track if you miss your turn in on the last turn. Its really fast but even though its flat the bumps and dips really make you work hard to go fast. You really have to concentrate and make sure your belts are extra tight ;-) Laguna you deal with sand blowing across the track which can make grip a challenge.

We usually stay at the Inn on the Lake as it has a great "racing" bar and a decent restaraunt that has Little Lake Jackson behind and Lake Jackson in front.
