So after seeing the motivational pic of 'pan fried awesome' (below), I thought I'd see how a BaconWeave would turn out myself*. As it turns out, having someone come by and try to 'help' by attempting to flip the BaconWeave only contributed to its demise. *note to self, get larger cast iron skillet. ohhhhhhhhhhhh momma !!!!!! my mouth is watering !!!!!!!!!!! After bacon is cooked, the best is cooking 2 eggs over easy in the bacon grease !!!!!!!! tooooooooooo good !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You could NOT be more right... PLUS.... my grandmother used to make something called 'Wilted Lettuce' where she would take hot bacon grease an pour over some form of lettuce (wish I knew which kind)... and we'd eat that...GREASY, YUMMIE SALAD...I could almost hear my arteries hardening... It was fantasitc.... Of course, here... WE CAN'T BUY BACON... ILLEGAL!!! So, I make sure EVERY trip to the US or Europe, I have some kind of pork... every trip, every meal.. Mike in Kuwait
I think that if you start with a bigger skillet and put the next smaller size on top of the "awesome" while it's frying it will stay flat. This would take some experimenting but there are bacon irons that are made to keep bacon flat in the pan.
I also like cooking a pancake in the bacon grease, make a hole in the pancake as it cooks, then 1 egg in the hole of the pancake and cook together.
We certainly are a bunch of bored guys..............................I'm gonna bake some dog buscuits now! Woooooof
And then, put just a little bit of Tabasco sauce on the eggs. Only eat the whites. Mix up some more Tabasco in the yolks and soak that up with toast. Oh man, crispy bacon and eggs over easy with Tabasco. That's heaven right there.
Bacon with fried eggs and crispy hashbrowns, grits & gravy, and OJ. That would possibly be my last meal if I was condemned. Seeing this bacon weave gave me an idea. How about serving the meal on top of the weaved bacon? Every bite...fried fatty pork flesh goodness.
Are you suggesting cracking an egg or two directly over the baconweave just before its done, so it all cooks into bacony deliciousness? Madness!
When I was a kid, Dad use to keep a Campbell's soup can in the fridge and that's where all the bacon grease went. We always cooked with it. Items like pancakes, eggs, etc. (mostly breakfast stuff) tasted damn good using it! YUM!
Take bacon out of fridge for 1/2 hour... strettttccch it as you weave onto broiler pan... set oven at 325... perfect weave... cook... Bacon appetit!
When I smoke turkeys I always layer the top with several pieces of bacon similar to the weave pattern. Take it off about 3/4 into the process so the turkey breast can absorb some of the smoke. The bacon by this time is black shrivelled little crispy strips. All that fat has soaked into the bird. Not to brag but it (the turkey) is wonderful. When we had a dog he would go crazy over this black bacon weave.
