    Hi everyone,

I just signed up here and thought I'd start my first thread, I always find it fascinating listening to how people got to where they are today so tell us your story! I do not own a Ferrari just yet but I am in the process of locating an F430 with my specific requirements. Right now I have an 08 BMW M5 which is joyous to drive however the time has come to purchase the dream especially with some of the deals available due to this 'recession'.

Anyway, I graduated from the London School of Economics with an accounting degree, went on to work for a large German investment house as an analyst and worked up to my promotion last year as a lead analyst in a value fund. :)

Welcome! If you find yourself zeroing in on a car you should definitely post something in the 430 forum about it with VIN and maybe some photos. Some of these guys have been around for over 10000 posts, so they know their stuff and could maybe offer some advice. I found that finding a mechanic using the search feature was really good. Checking on dealers and specific sales people also. I think I have a mechanic lined up just a twisty road away. Hopefully all the skill of one of the dealers, but closer to me, and more like $90/hour.

It's good to post something in your profile also. You don't have to post your full name, but where you are based is good, probably NYC for you. Then people can offer region specific suggestions about questions.

I'm working on my 355, we shall see, not here yet, hopefully next week. You going to go for a red 430? Probably a decision that has been much discussed in the forums. Whether that first Ferrari should be the classic color. My dream had always been a 328. And I still have my eye on a beautiful one that is currently in Florida. But prices for the 355 have come down, and after research here and elsewhere that will be my first Ferrari.

My path to my first has meandered from my first car, a 1972 Chevelle, shouldn't have sold for $250!, a Fiat X1/9, a Scirocco, some nice motorcycles, Porsche 928, a Lotus Esprit. Some less extravagant cars and a motorcycle that are in the garage now. I always thought a Ferrari was out of reach financially. We will see!

    Good luck with your search.

Thanks, I'm looking for one in dark gray with a dark red convertible top. Red has always been an unlucky colour for me so I opted to steer clear, I also dont really want the attention such a bright car would draw. I've called dealers in Atlanta and NYC to see if they had anything but neither had one in my specific requirements so I'm looking into getting a custom canvas made up.

Dark gray (Grigio?) on any of these cars is perfect. Silver or dark grey were up there, rare fortunately or unfortunately, but black is what I decided on in the end.

My wife was an analyst on wall street, and then part of a couple hedge funds. After the market this year the Ferrari will make it all worth it.

If the canvas top doesn't work out, maybe you could get the tonneau cover (if the 430 even has this) in the color you want. I think I have seen this on the 355. Black car, tan interior, black top, but then the tonneau was maybe tan instead of the black.

One thing about having such a car in the city, you have to take your time because of pot holes etc.-not something I'm used to doing. It's hard to hurt your new love.

If you get an F430, and plan to park it anywhere near NYC....I'd avoid getting a license plate like this:

    WalStrt
    or
    GorGeco

You'd probably come out to see the only thing remaining to be smoking cinders and melted rubber.

haha, prefer to avoid personal plates, why make your car memorable!

Maybe I should get the plate "H8 BNKRS"

Just noticed there is an investing forum, how do I get access to this? Do I need to pay? Sorry I looked for an FAQ but couldn't find one :(

If you're afraid of the attention driving a Ferrari might bring, perhaps an exotic car is not the right car for you. Its really that simple. You can 'man-up' and handle any negative hassle a Ferrari might bring your way, or you can't. If you can't, that hassle is coming your way regardless, and you're just not going to enjoy the car for what it is and what it does. I've seen this happen before - somebody with new-money buys a Ferrari, hates the attention, and ends up selling the car because of it. Sounds to me like 'image' is important to you, so-much-so that you're steering clear of 'eye-catching' colors and you're flaunting your resume on a public forum. While a Ferrari 'might' seem like a cool automotive accessory to show the world you're successful, how is it you CARE what others think or feel about your 'dream-car', so much so that you're wanting to be as inconspicuous as possible in one of the world's most conspicuous automobiles? This blatantly flies in the face of common sense.

Alexis you should subscribe. The private forums are really great...gets rid of *most* of the riff raff...

I never dreamed of having a Ferrari. It didnt seem possible to me growing up in the circumstances I did. My dream was always a M3.

    I got my dream M3 when I was 28.

A few years ago as I was looking through EBay I decided to check out Ferrari prices...lo and behold I was shocked to see that 355 spiders were actually at a level I could afford.

I bought one within a couple weeks.

    M. James I am not 'afraid' of owning an exotic car, I have owned many before. The reason I don't want a car the grabs attention is because of the jealousy it induces. I want the car for my self, no one else, but unfortunately in the world we live in, people feel the need to damage the property of others, my M5 has several key marks along the doors from people I can only suspect are jealous, my Carrera 4S had to endure having it's wing mirror torn/kicked off as well as screw driver attacks to the emblems. So M. James I'm sure you can understand why I am somewhat hesitant to any color which draws any more unneeded attention, good or bad, to my vehicles when I am not in them. After all you don't see celebrity walking around in public dressed like bananas.

As for subscribing, could someone provide a screen shot of the threads in the investing forums? I have no trouble subscribing but I feel that once I have made my purchase I wont make full use of the subscription. The investing forum is likely what will keep me active here :)

    Thanks,
    Alexis.

If you can rent a 430 then you should be able to "invest" 15$ a year here since this pluace is a "gold mine" for information. Even if you don't use the financial aspect of this site 15$ is well worth...
    Am I wasting oxygen here???

The amount of information in there is staggering, from international business to law to medicine and everything in between.
You have hundreds (if not thousands) of successful people around the world with a common interest and willing to immediately help out another FChatter with a question.
No "Club" offers so much for so little.

So maybe B&I should be moved up to Rossa level? If it's so cheap, it must not be worth much! :D

I bought a blue one thinking it wouldn't get as much attention, it doesn't work. It won't matter what color you get the car attracts attention.

Alexis- Welcome to the forum. Good luck on your first Ferrari. Find out which model you want and then worry about color. Some Ferraris stick out more than others and chap people off, while others just engender comments like "nice car". Partial to V12s myself, and in the gray/silver/titanium colors, they are relatively conservative and can be quite quiet (lots of 'Q's for one sentence, no?). Mine is red, noisy as all get out, but still does not seem to chap off anyone.
