I am trying to figure out why the F dealer has suggested a different type of fluid for my F1 tranny compared with the 355 shift car?
The dealer suggest I use ATF (automatic trans fluid) for my F1. ATF has thickeners in the oil for an auto trans. The fluid recommended for the 355 shift model gets a slipperyer type of oil.

From what I can tell by the pictures I have studied, the only difference in the F1 is the clutch! The 355 manual tranny has a foot pedal, the F1 has a hydo-matic power module with its own oil res. and closed loop syst. that never mixes with the trans. If that is the case, are not the trans on both the same, with different clutches?
Can someone please set me straight.

    Thanks,
    Poor boy

And for that matter, it looks like the clutches are the same! Yes/No?
I think the only difference is the actuating mechanisms!

    Thanks,

I am assuming they talking about using the ATF for the F1 system meaning the F1 Hydraulic actuating system and not in the gearbox as gear oil.

If not, It's time to find another dealer!

For the 355 the ATF is used only for the F1 control fluid, not the gearbox oil. Gearbox oil is 75W-90.

Yep. The Redline Full Synthetic 75W90 works great.

Red line is exactly what I am going to use. I think that the parts guy needs a little more training, which I will give him in a nice guy kinda way.. Thanks for confirming my suspicions. Good thing I questioned this before pooring away..

    Thanks again,
