Six-Wheeled Covini C6W Heading To Production http://jalopnik.com/5105964/six+wheeled-covini-c6w-heading-to-production The, um, front end and wheels look vaguely familiar!
A ploy by the tire companies to increase sales & profits. Custom wheel manufacturers stand to benefit as well.
One claim seems wrong. "Less chance of aquaplaning" When there are four tires taking the front loads, each tire should have about half of the downforce, and therefore more likely to hydroplane??? BT
Unless, the tires have less width(not sure whether they do on this car or not). So it has the same downwards force, and the front tire is cutting a path for the tire behind it.
Correct. Read an article many years ago about an F1 prototype car that never raced, a 6 wheeler design. Engineers were happy to discover the rear end did not aquaplane due to what you just described.
The Tyrell six-wheeler was one of the last innovative F1 car designs before they all were made with a cookie cutter. The Covini solves a problem that doesn't exist. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
