When will it happen? I sure would love one ! If prices on these drop as fast as the 360, I may just have one in the garage !
never. by the time prices would have fallen that far (7+ years),... inflation will keep prices above that number...
You dont think they will follow the 550 and 575 in 10 years or so?? Arent those cars selling for US $70K+?
OH, absolutely they will, and on a faster depreciation curve... 550's: for 90-$100K you get a great one. 575's: $100K gets you a rough 575 Can get a 348 for about 34,800... problem is the US Gov's plan to solve unemployment seems to be mass hiring at the US treasury in order to print the 2 Trillion $$$ that is being given away... SOOOOOO.... Inflation will keep 599 prices above $100K
Yea, with inflation that MIGHT take place it is hard to say, but my gut feeling is that eventually there will be SOME 599's below (or at least right at) $100k. It is not like this was a limited edition model or something. There are a BUNCH of them out there and certainly there will be some with 40k miles on them in 5-10 years that will be right around $100k. Only time will tell, but I would bet money that you will be eventually be able to find a 599 for that kind of money... YMMV.
Dont get your hopes up. When the 599 replacement is launched you'll see them dropping to roughly 120K i think.
Despite inflation the 599 will eventually hit $100K. I actually think it will hit it faster than the 550/575. The green wave will have gasoline only cars go out of style a lot quicker than I think most of us ferrari owners are comfortable with. When old technology makes room for new, I think value in exotics only will be retained for serious collectors and hobbyists. The big base of customers will jump ship and the market will shift accordingly. (IMEO) -Peter Oh
http://begreen-carbonoffsets.blogspot.com/2008/07/luxury-car-brand-going-green-for-long.html Well time will tell. -Peter Oh P.S Worse come to worse I could always hang my CS on the wall. P.P.S Wicked 575. Ferraris best 12 ever!
FROM THE WEBSITE>>>>>"With carbon offsets available for everyone, consumers dont have to own a Mercedes Benz to get on board with cleaning up their environment. By reducing your driving and offsetting the rest you can be carbon neutral today, and forever. " So MB gets a "HO-HUM" for stating that they will be TOTALLY GREEN in 7 years. Doesn't sound to me like these people REALLY WANT to see this happen....just stop driving and the world will be a better place.... What a freakin' hoax! Our Great-Grandkids will be reading this in their history books and laughing their a$$es off!!!! JIM
Inflation is going to happen. We can hope it does, since deflation(now) seems suboptimal, and we're printing billions. There were 3600 Maranellos built from '96-late '01, so 600-650/year. 599 has been in production since late '06, sales probably less for last few months. Assume same build rate, that is 1300 cars since introduced. Doubt production of Ferrari will stay at same levels, sales not there. Local dealer has sold 8-9, 2 of which have been sold on. There were 3 + mine in for service last week or so, pretty much all local cars. There are 1-2 in Austin, Mike knows better than I. It is idiotic to say 13-1400 cars are a BUNCH. There are 16000+ 360's(99-04), and probably 9-10k 430's(05-08) so far. There are 1300 F40's, their value is tanking, same with everything else. As someone pointed out, there will not likely be another car like the 599 built for reg/environmental reasons. I don't think that will do anything to hurt resale. She'll depreciate, but maintenance is far cheaper than the Maranellos or 360s, so that will help prices hold. People don't buy Ferraris for mileage or CO2 emissions. Hope everyone stops driving. I hate traffic. I frankly could give a damn what resale will be. I'm keeping mine, and mileing it up like I have been. If you've never driven one as hard as it'll go, you have no bloody idea. As much as I loved my Maranellos, they were nowhere near this car. In any objective category. Probably wouldn't use a HELOC for it in any case.
I was not denying inflation...only that inflation will be so high as to keep 599's above the $100k mark. As for 1600+ being a bunch we are talking about Ferrari's here. While you are correct the 360/430's have been built buy the boat load, historically speaking 1600 of any ONE MODEL is a BUNCH of Ferrari's... You go on to say not likely to be another one like the 599... So, what you are saying is that Ferrari is going to give up on building the most beautiful, exotic, powerful, performance cars that the world knows... They are instead going to start building electric cars that are green and hydrogen cars that will save the earth...maybe a few trucks or SUV's for good measure... But no more supercars.... Is that what you are saying?! To think that Ferrari is not already working on its next super car to replace the 599 is crazy! When that happens 599 values will fall, just as 550 values fell when the 575 came out and like the 575 is doing now with the 599... It is called progress. So, unless Ferrari is planning on going out of business soon or at least stopping production of road cars you better expect the 599 replacement to be better in every way and cause the price of used 599's to fall... YMMV... James
7200 Testarossas, 1400 Daytonas, 1400 F40's, 950+ 250 GT's/GTE's..... Yep, that's what I said. Yep, sewing machines. WTF are you smoking? Been driving Ferraris for 30 years. 166MM, Cal, Passo Corto, 250TR, 4-cam, Daytona, 308, yadayada. You have no idea what my point is, or how manufacturers need to change for this economy, or how the purchasing power of a huge percentage of new Ferrari customers is toast. Absolutely no clue of the difference between major market dumps of past without CO2/mileage/stigma, and now. F-1 may be done. WRC is. Nascrap probably. Ferrari will be here, just very different.
Thats what I love to read!! It is an awesome machine and I am glad to hear you and most of the 599 owners here drive their cars!! I cant wait to get one and when I do, I am sure it will also be a keeper.
Some sods say they'll be worth 100k soon. Not that anyone will have 100k. How's upsidedown world? Come visit, I may let ya drive mine.
New ones can be bought in Switzerland for 40K under msrp. today. Used ones in Europe can be bought in Europe for 200K today. Used ones in the US can be bought for 250K today and maybe even 225K. You'll be able to buy a used 599 for 100K in the US within 2 years. If you want one PM me and I'll hook you up to an FCHAT sponsor who has many, many , many of them for sale at very low prices.
As long as you have no intention of selling, then it doesnt really matter what its worth. Lol, that is true for some people. GREAT!! Thanks, lifes good here in Mount Isa, thats for sure!! Cheers mate, sounds like a plan. 599's are still selling for around US $450K here in Australia. I cannot come close to buying one at that price sadly. Not too many people can. But.......if they do hit US $100K, then I reckon I could park one in the garage.
