One careful owner - ha! He had also a chocolate brown 400A that he used to cane from Monaco to Maranello, racing Gilles Villeneuve's 308.

    Looks nice!

I hear Scheckter took a journalist along on one of those trips to Monaco and that an article was written about the experience.
Would anyone here be able to point me to this article? I'll bet it's a good read for 400 fans.

    Reported times:
    Jody Scheckter 2:30
    Gilles Villeneuve 1:45
    Eddie Irvine 1:30

Irvine claimed to have hit 185mph and to have passed a police car at 160! He was trying to make it back to Monaco before the bars closed and said it was a trip he wouldn't care to repeat!

Funnily enough he went past me once at about 150 not far from the Fiorano where he jumped from his Merc SL into his F1 car for a test session..

I have to apologize - I remembered the story as being Maranello to Monaco but it was actually Monaco to Milano. I'm sure that, being Eddie, he drove pretty darn quick on most journeys.

It was written in 1979 by Peter Windsor when he was the motorsports editor for the AutoCar. Great piece.
