I have a buddy that is a retired Radiologist that told me about this mail order eye glasses place. http://zennioptical.com/cart/home.php He told me that the glasses he had been paying ~$400 locally were well under $100 here. I went to my Ophthalmologist, who does exams but has no interest in selling glasses, got the script which contained all the needed info except the distance pupil to pupil. I got that # with my digital caliper looking at my eyes in the mirror. Easier than you think. just don't poke yerself in the eye! I ordered a pair with the works: high index plastic, progressive bifocal, lens coating, pure titanium frame. Got them in today: PERFECT. Absolutely PERFECT. This is almost identical to what I have been paying >$300 with my "good-guy-doctor" discount at the local optician. All for $84. Unbelievable. here's a pic of Ms. Piggy modeling them on my bathroom counter: Image Unavailable, Please Login
DUDE...THANKS. I'm a little over a week away from getting an exam and new specs...if this works for me, big $$$ savings since I was going to get 3 new sets.
They aren't bendys, they are very stiff, the "pure titanium' what ever that means. They are these: http://zennioptical.com/cart/product.php?productid=561&cat=0&page=1 I found my receipt, they were actually $78, not $84!
while we're on the topic of vision...Uro, that avatar is giving me a headache. thanks for the link tho...got new glasses a few months ago and I'm not happy with the fit, might look into a new pair.
I'm going to try one pair of titanium bendy...$49 or $69 depending on what lenses I will need. I'll order the other pairs ifin's I like them.
Thanks for noticing. I think I deserve a bigger avatar. This one features the 2 people from my favorite cartoon(one wearing a Dino tee shirt), the Porsche logo, my Dino, a Clemson tiger paw, Kitty Fishsticks in her pomelo and a local child molester.
Nice! Thanks for posting this. After getting a nearly $500 quote on a pair of progressives after a recent exam, I started looking on the internet. Zenni was one of the places I looked at, but couldn't pull the trigger because I just didn't believe the difference in price, and was worried about screwing up my eyes. I still haven't ordered from anywhere - but now I'm going to give them a try. Thanks!
Good lead to save some $$$. Eyewear REALLY gets my goat. Rule #1: NEVER buy from a mall, where you pay dearly for their overhead. The strip mall stores are where you can bargain with the manager or owner. I have owned very expensive and very inexpensive frames. The cheap ones seem to last longer than any of them. I'm on my third year with my current frames and they were about $69. What kills me is the cheap drug store eyewear. The same general quality frames as the inexpensive ones found at Site for Sore Eyes, Four Eyes Only, Etc., but they cost $16.95! Go figure! I did have an appointment to get my eyes checked last week, but the doctor had to cancel due to a horrible accident he had............. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ...................He fell into his lense grinder and made a spectacle of himself
I order from Zennis-- made in China, take a few weeks to get here but quality good. Lots to choose from.
I submitted my order to Zenni tonight, hopefully I won't be dissapointed. $57.90 all-in - Titanium Bendable Memory frames, anti-reflection progressive lenses. Shopping around locally - About $150 for similar frames and about $350 for similar lenses - total around $500. The only issue is not being able to actually try the frames on to see what they look like. I just went around locally and found ones I liked, wrote down their measurements, and ordered something pretty close. Hell, at these prices you could order 2 or 3 pair and just use the ones you like best.
Good thing someone bumped this thread.. one of my goals for 2009 is Lasik, so I'm going to have to pony up for a set of frames (the first in probably a decade) and this takes some of the sting out of it. Now I'll just cross my fingers that my eyes won't look like tiny blue dots afterwards.
How is the Barbisol red stripe? I have been using the purple stripe for a few years, it's great! The worst is the Gillette foam, pretty thin stuff. BT
Best foam you can get for 89 cents! you just have to put it on a little dish so you don't get rust circles on the counter...
