sure Paul :) its me, but not so use to ferrari forum:)
"Incredibly Nice Dino Replica" is a triple oxymoron. As for this fake's destiny, it will end its days the way it deserves to: in the crusher.
Only if they promise to remove the red paint. Some kind of exorcism might also be required! I actually have the highest respect for the Italian government for taking these measures. And a replica forum continues to be sorely needed.
Julio Make sure you carry your Classiche Certificate in Italy this year at the MM as without it they will seize and crush your car.
here are the pics for future reference for when the link dies. this replica isn't really that nicely done. look at how the engine either sits cocked to the side or the hood is not proportioned properly. if the ferrari badge on the nose and steering wheel were missing, would there even be a counterfiet claim? Now that you mention it....it is a bit strange that the Ferrari emblem on the front isn't in the center!
i haven't seen this car for sale, but frankly hadn't been looking for it. there are so many parts of this car that are goofy looking. it says it was headed to the gool dold us of a. who knows more of the story?
I'll say it again: I've got nothing against kit cars if they're original. Heck, if I had to drive a Fiero, I'd want a more attractive body attached to it. . . What I have trouble with is badging a car as something it's not. I don't like replicas, not even the admittedly well-done fake 250 GTOs built on other 250 Ferrari chassis, or the 288 replicas built on 308s. A car is what it is. Replicas diminish the marque.
Lee Holmans 59/60 TR replica is on ebay right now. I saw this car up close, and it looked pretty nice but I confess I've never seen a real TR up close. I noticed it had the vertical oil filter on the front of the front of the engine; what year did Ferrari start that? Ebay Auction Link
That is one part of the question, the 2nd part being what it was represented as in the documents. I don't think anyone has any recourse if the car is NOT represented as a Ferrari in the documentation, and bears NO badges. As soon as it does the 2 above things, it becomes a falsification, whilst without them it would just be a nice car.
Good day all, I just saw this on Ebay and I am absolutely bewildered as to how they could have this titled as a 62 Ferrari? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1963-FERRARI-GTO-SPIDER-1-OF-1-IN-THE-WORLD-COLLECTOR-C_W0QQitemZ190274573298QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item190274573298&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=65%3A7|39%3A1|240%3A1308 Some of the ones I have seen have been based on GTEs, 330s, etc and so one can understand how they can title it as a Ferrari... but this... what a piece ... Cheers, Sam
Did you report this to eBay's fraud: Counterfeit/Replica Items police? I predict that this will be taken down very soon. $90k for a Datsun 240? I don't think so!
Good day, No I did not, as I do not know what the rules and regs are on Ebay. However, it was pointed out to me that there is a chassis tag in one of the pics that shows it to be a 250 GTE ... So, is a GTE modified car? Hard to say... The Chevy 350 in its engine bay certainly does not add to its credibility. Cheers, Sam
Don't they even know whether it's built on a Datsun (as they say) or a 250 GTE? (I'd bet the farm that the chassis sticker from a GTE is only there because the builder was unable to come by so much as a picture of a 250 GTO tag!) I don't think that the dealership even knows exactly what they have: HALOGEN HEADLIGHTS and "THE DESIRABLE PRANCING HORSE" ( A $5 Scuderia sticker ) are their big selling points. I'm having trouble deciding whether this is offensive, comical, or just pathetic.
More interesting is why someone would want to go to even a little trouble to claim such an obvious fake is even remotely real. The power of self delusion is the only possible explanation.
