I can definately see that point of view.

I'm still a fan of the W208 coupe AMG 55, you can pick them up in the mid 12k to 15k range. Not bad for a German muscle car.

Really? I recenty drove the C63 and it is a lot of fun. Great pull throughout the curve, but I really like the c4s. Tho not as fast in the straight line I find the P-cars soo much fun w/ their great steering and overall feel. It feels like a go-kart! to me!!!

Just being honest but the 996 C4S was a pretty boring to drive to me, no spirit and we loved our 993 C4S...the 996 had lots of tire noise no matter what she was shod with and lots of wind noise too boot adding up to a garage queen for us. When compared to the others I have owned it was the least favorite of the bunch, which I was very surprised by. To be honest it was probably the last Porsche I'll buy unless I stumble upon a GT2 in a moment of weakness.

The new Merc is a blast...what a hot rod!

With the current environment and rapidly falling prices, the AMG V-12's seem like the performance bargain of the last decade. With perhaps 50,000 miles the CL600 and S600 are only $30k or so. The 65's are headed that way quickly as well, many early ones used as daily drivers are hovering around $50k. Give it another year and they will be in the high 30's as well. These are the old body styles of course, but for those that like them over the newer, it is a plus.

I have had a 4 cyl, a 6 cyl, and an 8 cyl from Mercedes, might be time to move up to the 12. Even though they make huge power, the big engine is still relatively understressed. A car with 50k miles still has at least 100k more in the engine I would say.

The CL65 is so much car for the money even at current levels. Where else could you get 600 hp and reliability and comfort and safety for so little money?

Unless you have a major component failure or are completely useless with DIY maintenance, these cars wouldn't break the bank to run except for fuel. On the highway, I would guess a CL65 would actually do better than my ML500 in gas mileage.

For some reason though the SL600 & SL65 have retained their value better than the 4-seaters. Must be the whole pseudo-sportscar convertible thing.

It's the looks. CL is not the most handsome car in the world.

I must confess, I find the new generation CL63 to be an absolutely beautiful car.

It is unusual for sure considering the CL65 was more $$ than the SL65 when new.

Current generation CL is pretty good looking. Last generation CL didn't compare as well to its sister SL. That seems to be the most reasonable explanation why used values of the previous CL are weak relative to the SL.

Absolutely, but something about the lines of the new "style" of Mercedes just looks excellent in white.
