I have 3 parrots... Cage as clean as it can be. They live in a nice room off the great room. Problem is, they have a certain "smell" that my wife is sensitive to...

During the summer we just leave the windows open, and its not an issue. During the winter... that doesn't work...

We bought a $200 air filter/ionizer, but it doesn't do much...

Any other pet owners with input on air filters/purifiers? Read some ads that claim that charcoal filters work great... Don't want to spend $500 more and find out that it isn't true...

Close the door to the room so it's more air tight?

I'm curious if there is something that helps with pet odors too, but not specifically for "pets." I have a mouse problem and I can't get rid of the bastard and my house smells like mouse piss.

I might try those air filters. In addition to the stink of mouse pee, I have a neighbor who smokes and I can smell it, even though she was told by the landlord (my parents) not to smoke in the house. I live in a double and she is next door. Really pisses me off and stinks.

How well do air scrubbers work? I'd pay $850 to not have to smell her stinky as cigarettes anymore.

Air scrubbers are designed to clean large volumes of air very quickly with a HEPA filter. They are typically used where mold and smoke damage has occurred.

The downside of some models, is more than usual fan noise.

    Zophie,

How are you trying to catch the mice?

I tried no-kill traps and I took them into the woods and released them.... even up to 1 mile away but the little bastards came back. So I had enough, and I got the snap traps. I found the trick is to put them perpendicular to the walls - up against the walls - because mice always run along walls. I just got like 30 of them and put them everywhere along all the walls... caught maybe 10 of them over 2-3 days, and in the past 6+ months I've maybe caught 2.

If they are in places you can't get to (like walls, ceilings) there are other ways to get at them there.

Thing about mice is they come in for the food... so wherever they can get food, is where they will be active.
