I'm on a quest to get every single light working on my TR and find that there are lights located in the sides of the center-lower console that illuminate the tops of the switches through slits along the sides of the console edges.

Shown in Table 119 of the spare parts catalog as follows:
    #10 Glass
    #11 Glass Frame
    #21 Cable for Tunnel Lamp.
In between #21 Cable and #10 Glass is the Bulb and Socket which are unlabeled.

These assemblies sit vertically in the sides of the lower console.
What is the best way to access these items to replace the bulbs?
Do you prey the switches out so the upper switch panel can be lifted out?
The Switch panel base is #31 on Table 121

    Dear Ferraristi,

    Ok, here goes....

    - remove Allen bolt from bottom of rear glove box in center console. You need to access the hold down screw on motorized seat belt cover

    - pull little light out or rear center console glove box. You will see a screw holding down the motorized belts cover. You don't need to remove the cover....just get it out of the way.

    - remove little cubby pocket in center console with Allen wrench.

    - When you pull that out, you will see a side mounted screw from the console fiberglass holding down the rear of the center console switch panel ( fragile plastic...no longer available ) I bought one of the last new ones 3 years ago ($ 380.00)

    - remove the coin holder in front of the center console. Pry up slowly. It has tabs that I believe go under the center console plastic or under the gauges...can't remember.

    - once you remove the coin holder, you can now pry up the plastic panel. Pry slowly up on the front then the back and back and forth. In order to get past the metal "light slots" you need to pry the center console along the width slightly to allow the plastic to slip past the metal. Do not try and pull it past...it will crack.

    - once you get it up and out, the wiring is long enough to work on the side light bulbs. The bulbs are clear with an amber colored plastic film keeping the color consistant...don't tear it.

    - When draping the wiring and console cover over the side of the console itself, use a towel to protect the leather. The vacuum switches for the HVAC are clad in a sharp metal housing....it will scratch.

There you go....one tall thin blonde as payment please. :D

I have had mine out a couple times and Shamille speaks the truth. Getting the plastic past the metal "light slots" is difficult. Be careful when prying so as not to damage the leather.

I can tell you this - my lights in the center console do illuminate - though I can not say they "work" to illuminate the switches...

Sort of like the ridiculously inadequate dome light which I have recently modified in mine, a 28 watt increase with a 400% increase in light. I'll show this in a different thread.

Those (Item # 31, PN# 131470) are now available aftermarket in a brushed stainless steel (matches the shift gate) for about the same price..............
