Pulled over for doing the speedlimit!

you guys just don't get it, do you? why should an ordinary person need breaks from cops if he is going around minding his own business, doing nothing illegal? you should not need to kiss cops' asses. why would you be so intimidated by them if you aren't a criminal? who told you that you need them as "friends?" do you feel the same way about plumbers? doctors?

artvonne, if you leave this alone, you can bet he will pull over pretty girls because he can get away with it. hope you don't have daughters.

 

Plumbers don't carry pistols and the ability to throw ya in jail for "resisting arrest and assault of an officer"

Pick your battles and minimize your interaction with the revenuers.

 

I'm not a criminal, but of course I'm intimidated by police. As soon as I pass one, I get kinda antsy...making sure I'm going the speed limit, not swerving, music not too loud, etc. If you have cops as friends they're more likely to let you go if you're accidentally running 10 mph over the speed limit. Anyone can do that, not just criminals.

Plumbers usually have their own business, so of course it's a good idea to become friends with plumbers. They are more likely to give you a better deal if they do work for you.

Doctors? Probably not...they usually have a set price for their services...

 

The only thing I would have hated was seeing the flashing lights behind me. I hate that with a passion. During and after the pullover I would have forgiven him and probably wouldn't have cared. I'd have been flattered.

 

I will actually side with the copper on this one...it's nice to see them enjoying cars instead of, well, you know.

I have also had extremely good luck lately...and have had some recent run ins with some very nice officers who let me go. The last one, a Metro cop, even agreed with my opinion on my smaller hometown police force: He told me to be careful back home because they had nothing better to do than to write tickets. It was a nice laugh.

If you buy one of these cars...have patience. They're lookers, and more people than you'd like to think are gonna look.

Can still see how it would be annoying, though.

 

Pull me over any time you want- you can take pictures, sit in it, I'll take you for a ride. What's wrong with making a new friend who happens to work in law enforcement?

Ask for his card next time- might need it someday later on.

C&D has an article about police depts being used to prop up revenue in depressed areas. No one ever said our justice system was perfect- might as well play the game to your advantage.

 

You're all being short changed on your exotics.

They should be scared to pull you over because of who you or your connections might be.

Guess your cars just aren't exclusive enough.

 

Because alot of guys here have a big problem with authority figures, especially the police... Unbelievable some here would want the officer fired for that...Or sue for harassment? It is obvious they have no clue what harassment is... And some of you wonder why some police are *********s? Give me a freakin break..

I've been stopped a couple for this kind of stuff. Once my heartbeat returns to normal, I find it amusing. Nothing like a chat with a police officer about my car to lighten my day. Also had several parking lot conversations during our cars and coffee expeditions on Saturdays. Again, no harm, no foul. Every interaction with the police like this can be turned into an opportunity.

Favorite comment, "Wow, it sure is low in there." for a female officer who stopped me once for an expired inspection sticker. I had just been to the dealer for service, but forgot the inspection. Explained it to her, she let me go with a warning instead of a $200 ticket.

I still don't understand why so many guys here see the police as the enemy. If you're out there speeding, breaking the law, and they pull you over, well, you played the game and lost. If they stop you because they think your car is an outstanding example of a motor vehicle and want a closer look, well, so what? Like another poster said, get his card, never know when it might come in handy. Chat the guy up, make sure he remembers your name, what's the harm.

It seems like we crossed the threshold of decency a while back. Yes, this wound up all good but don't think for a minute if this guy had stopped your car and had reason to be suspicious that you wouldn't have been questioned and found yourself being frisked spread eagle out in the open. Personally I would not want to be stopped unless I deserved it.(even then I still wouldn't want it ) There's just too many variables in the world we currently live in.

 

This is great. I had this done years ago and had made friends with a new bunch of guys. I would have invited him to drive the car when he got off shift and also ask him to bring a few of his buddy's . It's always good to make some friends with the police. You should also ask him for one of his business cards and if you establish a good relationship you'll be able to get a few "get out of jail" card in case you ever need them. Make the best of it . It was a good break for the officer who deal with the dregs of the world most of the time. So enjoy it and laugh it off.

 

Id be pissed off. Abuse of his job title.

Be nice to you local police. Hell I even stop by the local fire department when they are all sitting outside on summer days. Have a chat with them, let them sit in the car, take pics, etc. They all know where I live and if ever an issue - I will error on the side of nice to get maybe that quicker help if ever needed.

If they're up front about it, I don't really mind. Playing tour guide is part of owning an "exotic". (Even if a 3x8 isn't all that exotic. )

But then, I remember when cops and citizens used to be on the same side.

I think that was way back when the government worked for We the People.

(Back when cops were "To protect and serve" rather than auxiliary revenue collectors, as in some towns, these days.)

We live a few miles out of town by the lake and one morning I decided to take the QV into town to buy a coffee. Beautiful Montana morning and I was getting on it a little, crested a hill at about 90mph as a Highway Patrolman was comming down. Well, there goes a wonderful start to my morning is what I was thinking, but all I got was a thumbs up! No such thing as too many friends!

 

There are much worse ways to abuse the authority. Take the picture and move on.

While it's illegal, and probably something that could cause him trouble, look at this way: He was probably very greatful that he got a chance to look at the car, and maybe the next time when someone in a similar car is 5 10 over the limit, and is graceous when stopped, no ticket. Life is about rules, but it's also about courtesy.

I've allowed CHP officers to sit in my car, offered them rides. Never hurts to establish a friendly attitude.

I have to agree. This isn't "an officer" as much as it is the kid inside all of us. Words are important, however I'm sure he meant something more like, "My brother will never believe I was ever this close to an exotic car in my life." Not everyone has the background, upbringing, education, advantages,etc. that many of us take for granted.

That was a taste of a Hollywood Star's daily life. Take time to be thankful you are on the other side of the fence.

It wouldn't have bugged me in the least. In 7+ years, I've been pulled over twice in my Ferrari. Both times, the cops were cool, admired the car, asked me about it, and let me go. Both times I was pulled over for a reason, and had earned the ticket they could've written. Thank your lucky stars for enthusiast cops.

 

Great opportunity to make friends with a cop that one day might catch you driving a bit spirited. Chances are after he tells his buddies, they may pull you over for speeding, but remembering the story, you may get off with a warning and another quick tour of the lambo!
