OK, let's not ruin this with all the discussion about the legality of the stop from last week. The officer is going to drop by with his young brother-in-law on Saturday morning. I plan to give them both a ride in the Gallardo and the 355. He is really excited and sounds like a very fine and good young man. I'm looking forward to having them here. I may post some pictures if guys don't go crazy. I always find it better and more fun to make friends than foes! Like today, it was gray and ugly down here in the valley. My wife and I took a drive up into the hills where the sun was bright and beautiful. Pulled into a "vista point" to look out over the valley fog. Guys in pickups, RV's and station wagons, came over to the Lambo to ask questions. One asked, "do you mind if I take a picture?" I said, give me your camera and sit in the car, I'll take a picture of you in the driver seat. The guy was totally excited and appreciative. My wife held his 9 week old son and we both had a ball. Personally, I think it is important for those of us with these beautiful cars to share them with people. The folks go away thinking we aren't just a bunch of jerks and snobs, just common people with a passion for fast and beautiful cars. It is one of my great joys of ownership! Happy New Year! Make someone's day, let them sit in your car, give them a ride or just start a conversation with them about the details of the car. It's a lot of fun for everyone.

Agree, we should do all we can to make those who are trying to "touch" the world of exotic cars enjoy them with us. 99.9% of these people either couldn't or wouldn't ever own one, but many think they are awesome. Let's get out there and share the blessing we have with others!

Of all the comments and questions i enjoy the excitement and awe of average people when they see my car.

I think what you've done is fantastic.

If you want to keep this thread interesting you have to let the LEO drive the 355. Once he hears that engine roll past 8000 rpm there is no way he is keeping to the speed limit. :)

Probably will. The sound of the 355 with the Tubi at 8500 is better than symphony!

It would be entertaining to secretly contact one of his fellow on duty officers and inform him of your route and time frames. Have the on duty officer pull him over to get a peek at the car and harass him a bit. I would like to see that reaction.

Not trying to derail this thread as I think your gesture will be greatly appreciated by the officer and his buddy.

many years ago I was out for a bike ride with several of my friends late at night. On our way back into town a few people in the group were going "a little" over the limit. Needless to say we were all pulled over. We could have been ticketed for many various violations, but since one of my friends happened to be friends with 1 of the officers we ended up with a Disobiediece to a traffic device ticket for ~$90, instead of $100's and loss of license.
So yes it never hurts to be friends with your local PD

I think it's great that the officer is coming over to check out the cars. I do still think that he over stepped the line with flashing lights and all, but he's only human and obviously has the same disease as most of us. He's a friggin' car nut!! I personally wouldn't mind all that much if it had happened to me. I have
quite a few friends in law enforcement as does my wife. These men and women are all good people that put their lives on the line for us every day.
One of my buddies is a captain in an agency in my area and I know that he would rip the rookie a new one if he did what happened to the OP, but I also know that he would give him a slap on the wrist, NOT fire him as some have suggested. Bottom line to me is that the OP is obviously a great guy and has a great attitude. I am the same way with my 430. I always go out of my way to let people take pics, sit in the car, talk about it with them, etc....It's one of the joys of ownership to me. Happy New Year all!

Excellent. I would do the same.

A patient of mine is a LEO and we are going out to his gun club where he is going to let me sample his guns before I buy one...of course I'll let him drive the 550!

So, the officer comes over with his dad and his brother-in-law this morning. I'm not going to post any names since some here seem to have a little problem with authority:). But, we had a really nice time. Went for a "spirited" drive. My son took one and I took the other. We went about 10 miles and switched cars. It was a blast. The officer turns 27 tomorrow so this was a birthday present (had no idea)! All in all, a really great young man and family. We stood and talked about muscle cars, exotics and guns for over an hour. I'm glad he pulled me over! (Good thing he wears a uniform, if he didn't, he would probably be mistaken for a boy scout he is so young. Well, young to me, my sons are older than him!) I'm glad to have made some new friends. I won't tell you which one is the 14 year old and which is 27, you figure that out for yourselves.

Cool shots and good for you for making a few friends. One of the problem we have in the sportscar world with Police is we are often on the wrong side of a meeting with them. That is why I am trying to become friends with 285 Ferrari :p KIDDING!!!!

In any case, glad you guys had a good time and hopefully did some good PR for us guys in the exotics world.
