I think my second gear synchro is going out and the question I have is, can this be replaced with the engine in and what would the average cost be? If this is a major with an engine pull I may have to sale the car, I have already put more in it than it is worth, so I really do not want to spend to much more on the car. Thanks for your help.

Gary, i had the same problem with mine too.
I'm going to say that you have to pull the motor to separate the gearbox from the engine.

But i'm known to be wrong some times. Anyway, here's a picture of mine what it looks like.

Thanks, now I need to decide on keeping it or selling it. I do not have the equipment to do myself and I am sure the cost will be higher than I want to spend. I love the car but since these cars are not pulling high dollar, fixing it may not be a good investment at this time.

Sometimes the 2cd gear gets brutalized to the point you cant touch it and it grinds.I have something for you to try.Get on a deserted street and go 10mph in 1st,back off the gas and gently but firmly shift to 2cd. Stop, repeat, lots of times and then learn how to precisely clutch, shift to neutral, raise the revs and depress clutch, shift to 1st.Shifting up and down from 1st,2cd,3rd at low speeds will improve the synchros teeth profile and might get uou home.Change the fluid to redline,I use MT90. Dont give up,you should be able to shift that Car up and down all the gears without touching a synchro, learn to use the racing technique, double clutch.

Try some Redline MTL first, and see if that will be an acceptable solution.
