posted on 6speedonline as well http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/midwest/156919-eat-greet-drive.html Talking with some other guys from the Audi forums...... Id love to set up a Eat and greet drive thru some of scenic roads of Michigan in the spring..nothing big just small get together for some of us to meet, eat and drive on some of the beautiful roads of Michigan that noone talks about... Michigan has alot to offer for scenery and Love to host a drive. Id want to possibly do a charity donation drive further down the road.. But to be able to be around successful people like yourselves would be my main objective.. So what do you say? meet at kart 2 kart located here possibly have food catered there or have lunch in Oscoda at this place a little drive thru the coast of Michigan up to mackinaw city where we can dine here route would most likely be this route But, I'm always here to hear your suggestions! would be a 1 day drive. So anyone interested? would be a nice cruise stop take pics and some nice vids along the way. we could do a everyone pay for themselves or I could set up something so that for a flat fee it will cover everything. I'm sure we could get a pretty good discount on all the stops if I booked it as a group. What do you guys think??? Who's down?? Justin James
Definitly sounds like an overnighter. I do not want to drive to Makinaw and back in one day. Sounds like fun. Go up one side one day, stay the night in Makinaw and back down the other side.
That drive is VERY long, and quite boring. I think the idea is great... however, logistically; anything more than 10 cars is tough. I'm not saying that 30-40-50+ is impossible. When they get that big, separating at lights, getting lost at stop signs, adequate parking... there's ideas there, and good ones
Ok I guess a proper introduction would have been better then ... HEY wanna go to mackinaw with me? LOL anyways names Justin I work for chrysler actual company I work for is Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance aka GEMA. Im a very passionate automotive enthusiast. Im 27 and I live in Tecumseh,Mi why does that sound like a personal ad?? Overnighter would better I had originally thought just didnt know what everyones opinion on it. Overnighter is good I know the drive would be hell if a 1 dayer. any more suggestion. Im open to them all... what would make this a better/more fun drive?
I was also thinking more then 30 would be difficult... I was thinking about limiting it but who am I to limit who wants to come??
ok guys got about 5 audi guys 1 6speeder and how many fchat guys? lets put our ideas together and make this a great drive! I nominate the april 18th-19th or may 9-10th which one works best for you guys/gals? I dunno about driving the other side on way back thou... could be kinda long and boring.... we could do one side up and 75 back thou. If we do the west coast up we could have the illinois/chicago guys and indiana and western ohio guys as well..... what are your thoughts?
May 9-10 is out for me. So are any days that interfere with Waterford race schedule. I think I have a shot at the Championship this year, as my stiffest competition have moved to different classes. So, to have any chance I have to attend every race. 2009 Race Schedule Race 1 - May 9-10 Race 2 - June 6-7 Race 3 - June 27-28 Race 4 - July 25-26 Race 5 - August 29-30 Race 6 - October 3-4
The west coast is far more interesting in terms of driving. April wont have much color on the trees... down here, let alone further north. When going so far north, one MUST consider that the greatest road in all of Michigan is between Cross Village, and Harbor Springs... and also consider the time of day when driving it.
isiaac ill go over a possible route for the west as well when i meet up with xclr8 and manager from k2k this week hopefully.
Jerrari knows a fair bit of the west side himself, and set up a FOC drive a few summers ago that everybody loved. Are you meeting up with Arron B, or Castle?
here would be the route if we did the west coast of michigan. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=grand+rapids,Mi&daddr=US-31+N+to:44.746733,-85.57251+to:mackinaw+city,mi&hl=en&geocode=%3BFQpGngIdXOPZ-g%3B%3B&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=2&sz=7&via=1,2&sll=44.512176,-85.957031&sspn=4.363413,9.008789&ie=UTF8&ll=44.355278,-83.682861&spn=4.375133,9.008789&z=7
mr2 I dont limit. who am i to limit? U are more then welcomed to come as long as you like pics taken of your ride! This ride should be enjoyable for everyone.. I have a list of restaurants for meeting spot in grand rapids. Ill call the ones I chose but does anyone have suggestions? I am open to them for sure I have steakhouses picked out I am getting a list of places to eat in mackinaw as well and where we should stay. I would like to find some very beautiful scenery smooth and no traffic road to get some videos and some pics of the rides. Id like to get rolling shots and some driving vids as well... Not to mention the pics in mackinaw that will just be group pics. So on the way up there we will probably stop sometime and do the pics and video thing. if you know these roads then let me know. Ill be driving the route 2 or 3 times before the actual drives so i can scope out things and talk in person with restaurants and hotel we choose. Justin
I've been following this thread and am seriously thinking of joining in with my GT4. I know the west side of the state very well and it sounds like a good time. I may try to drag a couple Ferraris/others from this area. Hopefully the snow is melted by April!!! JIM
Jim Id love to see some older ferari's out there! Love the ol school! Date for drive is may 9th. ill be looking forward to seeing every car that comes out. Ill be planning these drives every season.
I'd personally start out going west on Leonard and take that all the way out to Spring Lake. 55mph country road fun, easy corners and calm drive. May add about 10 minutes to the trip depending on how lightly you use the gas. But I think it would be a very nice start to the cruise compared to straight to the highway. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=grand+rapids,Mi&daddr=Apple+Blossom+Dr+NW+to:Leonard+St+to:Leonard+St+to:Leonard+St+to:Leonard+St+to:43.062617,-86.18165+to:US-31+N+to:W+Grandview+Pkwy%2FM-37%2FM-72%2FUS-31+to:S+Lake+Shore+Dr%2FM-119+to:mackinaw+city,mi&hl=en&geocode=%3BFTLhjwIdgB_j-g%3BFRpJkAIdng3h-g%3BFSZ-kAId8Kjf-g%3BFUodkQId4oDe-g%3BFRgJkQIdfjbd-g%3B%3BFQpGngIdXOPZ-g%3BFVQSqwIdZnjl-g%3BFZBQtgIdToHt-g%3B&mra=dpe&mrcr=0&mrsp=6&sz=14&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9&sll=43.070894,-86.161909&sspn=0.028967,0.077248&ie=UTF8&ll=43.307192,-85.6604&spn=0.923376,2.471924&z=9
That sounds great, it would/will be weird to see someone taking a photo of my car i am so used to taking photos of other peoples cars! (www.speed-photos.net) I am still very interested and will be watching this thread
mr2speedracer your welcome to take pics if youd like. Id like to get as many people taking pics as I could...and at your caliber id definitely be interested in seeing what you got! I have not forgot about this thread i know i dont update it as i should be there is nothing to update as of now. when snow clears ill go make drive and take pics and notes about places we can stop to take pics and video as well as some of the scenery. Ill also comment on the spots we may eat at for this trip.
If you guys set something up for the West side, I would be happy to try and arrange some things in the northern area (where Issac mentioned the Tunnel of Trees). There is a very nice, small car show at the end of June that could make for a good weekend if timed properly. I can be reached at [email protected], and, with any luck, we can watch Issac try and hustle his Jeep through the "Tunnel". Also, I could probably arrange for a number of photographers to be placed throughout the Tunnel of Trees at some of the more picturesque areas. If there is enough interest, I'll try and contact the powers that be and see if, for a short period of time, we could get the road to ourselves. This is only a possibility, but if there was enough interest and everyone was willing to donate some money to the area or a local charity (I'd have to see what they would want), I think something could be arranged. -Aaron
Not going to happen again. The Jeep has seen better days. I'm glad I did it when I had. Fresh Brakes, sticky wide rubber, and a large set of brass b*** kept me glued to the Noble's Arse That would truly be amazing. Look into it, and what charity they prefer; and minimum donation. We have "just" enough time if we want to be semi- serious.
I sent them an email. I will follow up with a call on monday or tuesday if I have not heard back from them.
