ciao Franceso i am an italian lambo fan and owner i had seen this P250 for sale in many differents place : Ferriauto in Modena one of last times i told a friend to buy it since i thought it was interesting but he got a 3rd montreal instead.... hope to see you at next lambo event in Italy
Hallo to all, thanks for all the informations that I'm collecting and that will be very important for car restoration. Since today I'm back to my garage (tomorrow I'll go back to work), I checked the construction date of tyres...1988 ...quite old stuff indeed ! My (wrong) theory was that the tyres shoud perform better after a little driving, i.e. by peeling off the thin layer of rubber that can be hardened.... but anyway it will be better to get a set of XWX, but this will be the last thing to do. About the Lamborghini badge on the rear trunk lid, the metal sheet has a recessed triangular area, just like in the front side. After careful watching of other photos, I think that this "rear badge" belongs to the first production batch of cars, maybe the first 50 units. Another distinctive sign are the three sets of ventilation slots on the rear side of car's roof (with the same number of slots like the three pre production protoypes: the orange, the yellow and the met.grey ones). Then, I suppose on mid '73, the central set of slots was eliminated. And the other distinctive sign of very early cars are the engine compartment and interior bonnet/trunk lid coloured as the body. Maybe you are more informed about these details than me... Thanks to Eric for signaling me the beautiful "Lamborghini Urraco" book by J.F. Marchet. I have got it and it's very interesting for me since many particulars are well into evidence for correct restoration of my car.... but -I'll be crazy- I'm not perfectly sure that the car puctured on it is really the #15000. Since at the moment I do not have any real proof to post, when I read the book I promised myself to find out some other data in order to confirm or not these photos. Only a thing I can point out now (I hope): the photo on the top of page 50 should be not correct, i.e. that the running Urraco shown is dated 1970. Nice to meet you Emilio, and thanks for your post. If we 'll meet to some Lambo event on a next future, I'll tell you all details of my last bargain... Ciao francesco
Hello Francesco, I think you're right with all of this point, about the JF Marchet book, I have also a doubt about the centre console, there"s a different type as the one fitted to your car, I'll try to have more information from JF Marchet, he is the founder of the Lamborghini french club in 1979, In may this year we will have a big event for the 30th birthday of the club. Eric
Thank you, thank you indeed Eric for confirming to me the same doubts I have. This is not for rising any critic about that beautiful book, but on reading it I've found some "obscure points": maybe they are correct, but I can say they have a "low probability" to be happened respect to the very first "rumors" I've heard about #15000 ... At the moment my idea is that the car pictured on the book, and reported there as "first production car", is merely a car belonging to the first production lot of 36 cars built in late 1972. I think that "first production car" is a too generic term to say "it's true" or "it's false", since depended on what Lamborghini press office was declaring to the journalists at that time... As you were writing, there is an high probability that all the photos in the book (pages: 7, 50, 52, 53) refers to a single white car, that on page 53 (below) is referred as "first production batch"... and the interior pictured in these photos IS NOT belonging to the #15000. The other suspicion I have is that car #15000 was built at least a couple of months earlier, probably in the first half of 1972. Keep in touch. ciao Franz
My friend passed on the car, tuff to smog in California and we were puzzled because it was a 300 with a 250 engine? Did Lamborghini build some interim cars ? Strange because the VIN is at the end of the list. I am thinking maybe the factory had the body finished and had some 250 engines laying around, or they had smog issues in the later years, so they put the 250 engine in to pass. Another Italian mystery.
in green and looking MEAN!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XR9pSCTWZs0&feature=PlayList&p=25D5A4F1CC83840B&playnext=1&index=80
yes it was quite odd.. but thats typical with urracos where there not rhyme or reason why some P111 / P300 serial numbers, years, motors and various other parts where mixed and matched. Its almost as if they used what the had laying around the factory. seems like the earlier cars built before 75 where more consistent. Were the P118 and 117 parts bin raided to built more P300s or vice versa? you would think at least if one was to advertise it as a P300 it should be a 3.0L in it. i spoke to the owners brother (who was a very nice elderly man btw) insisted it was but it was obviously a 2.5 cuz it had a sohc motor in it. The specification of that car was very similar to the P111 eddins had in berekely a few years ago with the P300 interior/shift gate and 2.5 motor with the usa bumpers. I think there another one for sale in texas spec’ed out like that as well. Cheers btw velocetwo ?? you dont have an alfa by chance do you? hf
Hi guys & girls (hopefully), Owner & until recently daily driver of my '75 Urraco - I thought I knew my Urraco's better than most but saw this car today (sold last year I think in the US) and the rear window treatment is something I've not seen before. Rear is differing treatment than the prototype cars and differs from the known and published French market redesign due to Frence legislation restricting use of the slotted engine cover - this seems altogether different from both - anyone know the story? It looks like more than a straigtforward glass for slats swap! Bax Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
i know a little of that car... i think the owner and car was in newport beach. he did a little design mod and remove the rear louver as well as the side pair. i believe that car had a plexiglass front windshield because he couldnt source a replacement. im not sure if he ever got it running... notice the sticker on the xwx ? bax can you post a photo of your car? cheers hf
I spoke to the guy when the car was forsale. He made the rear hatch for it and he also made the solid covers for the side slats. The windshield is another story. He explained to me that the motor did not run and was torn down for an overhaul and put back together with no Pistion rings, Bearings, gaskets ect. ???? He was a nice guy but he seemed to have just given up on the car. I bet the car has a bad block or crankshaft - something major must be FUBAR. In the pics it looks like a decent car outside of the mods.
so why would anyone put a motor back together without the rings? he said he fiberglass in the side scoops. and what would you do about the windshield, from what i understand, urraco/jalpa windshields are pretty hard to source. anyhow it would be a great car for a urraco bob rallye replica... cheers hf Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Stupid thing is my U hasn't been posted anywhere and previous (and only) owner of car had no interest in public displays of car or any club related forum/chat/postings. As such the car hasn't been seen by many people over the years and I get sort of a kick about keeping it that way - in direct contrast to it's big sister - the Miura is now posted all over the place!! Bax. PS but it does get spotted from time to time!! http://www.pistonheads.com/GASSING/topic.asp?h=0&t=481812&i=40 and that gives me a bit of a buzz - maybe one day.
There is an Urraco III (2.5L USA model) for sale in my area. I owed this car about eight years ago. It was immaculate then. Just before I got it it was part of the Lamborghini museum collection from Oaklahoma that never got off the ground. I have not seen it since I sold it (VIA Steve Harris Imports). It probably needs servicing at this point. Here is a link: http://www.ksl.com/index.php?sid=&nid=443&tab=list/view&ad=963841 Could make a nice car for somebody.
Thats interesting. "9" left, of 21. I'd like to know where some people come up with all these different numbers. Something I have not taken the time to fully research myself is the total number of "typo III" USA cars that were built. I have #15948. A couple pics are earlier in this thread. Anyway I had read there were only 27 USA cars in "75. But even in the registry, I counted like 30 some, and I know alot, like mine, are not even listed. Anybody shed some light? BTW, even though I don't visit this forum often, its great to see the Urraco thread still continuing. They really are a good car.
I do not know where this guy is coming up with the numbers either. Just thought I would point out a car that was for sale in a place where many people might not find it. As I said, the car was a diamond 8 years ago. I have not seen it since.
Hey guys, I'm thinking of adding an Urraco to sit next to the S1. What are for sale in the US/CDA. I know of several, most red. Do we have more pics of Joe F's car? What condition is his? Leather or Clothe? Etc. I also have an eye out on Kirk's car in New Jersey. The 2 questionable ones at Gullwing motor in NY. Also Chris (?) in California restoring one and his Miura.
If you are interested in my car pm me and I will get you some photos. My car is by no means perfect but it runs and drives very very well.
Somebody scored one at a good price: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300297310299&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&viewitem=
Fine car indeed Emilio! "Verde Carabo" is my favourite colour, together with "arancione Miura". ciao Francesco
