Getting ready to drop the rear subframe, engine and tranny onto a custom made dolly for a major service and detail.

I've searched the archives and only found some vague information on doing this, anything I should watch out for? Taking plenty of pics so far, and will post up the entire procedure start to finish when its done. Also doing this without a lift or scissor setup by myself. Helpers only get in the way and slow things down. Should be interesting. From my measurments and eye balling the tape, I need somewhere between 30-34" of clearence (i've removed the intake manny to gain some clearence) which shouldn't be a problem. I hope.

    Thanks Chris

I did this on my 83 Mondi Cab last Summer. I would strongly suggest that you remove the injection unit before dropping the engine. Also remove the muffler. I have a thread with pictures of the way I got it out. Look in my (started) thread titled: 1983 Mondial Cab engine removal. Hopefully this will be of help.

Thanks for the response, I have removed the fuel dist. and rear muffler and test pipe. Also took the sway bar out so it doesn't get bent or messed up on the dolly. Thanks for the link title also.

I noticed some areas on the rear muffler where it looks like the weld broke and exhaust gas is hissing out. Is this a common thing? Should I just tig it shut or is this not a leak. Sure looks like a leak. I'll try and take some good pictures tonight and post them up.

Also, what are peoples opinions on removing the heat shield from the exhaust system and replacing it with some wrap? any benefits.

My car is a Euro, I will never have cats on my car.
    Oooops,
I mean thanks. Tippy is the best pet I have ever had.
You can leave home for 2 days w/o a baby sitter. Or, have somebody feed him if gone longer.
OH, He is not a cat, he is 1/2 bengal, or about 1/10 snow leopard, that's why he is So big, 43 inches from paw to paw. He likes other cats, untill they start a fight, funny to see them do that to, for he kills rabbits. (ha ha) He likes water and will join you in your bath.

because he is not a Real pedigree, I let him outside, He runs in my front yard,,, 5,000 + acres.

    Ciao,
    proud papa,

Man, and I thought that was just a set of miniature headers!! (cute little suckers. LOL) I've seen pictures of cats like that before. They are supposed to be nice, friendly creatures. But a cat the size of a German Sheppard, I don't know... if it decides to eat you for lunch, you're toast.

I should post some pics up of my cats turbo and jetta. you'd guys get a kick out of them, turbo is 22lbs (and thats zero lbs fat) and jetta is a little 6lb calico. Turbo has been kicked out of three vets because of his temper, and has one snaggle tooth from chewing/attacking on metal, he's an alpha male, part jungle cat (F2)they think. Many, many funny stories related to these little guys. lov them for sure. He was a wild cat I found, only god knows his real pedigree.
