Clint Eastwood's new movie is very good. Highly recomended and will be recognized as a great Clint movie. It is easy to see why he wanted to do this story as a director and an actor. And yes. There is a car in it.
that's a shame. his previous movies (at least Unforgiven, Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby) were all extremely well acted-one of the hallmarks of his films IMO. I'll still go see it though...
i couldn't stop laughing when clint was punching the kitchen cabinets. i've seen better acting in porn. the entire movie consisted of one bad cliche after another.
Clint is my all time favorite actor. Ive seen everything he was in and directed. I ll def go and see this one.
Mediocre movie. There are lots of good Clint-isms in the movie which will make you chuckle, but his sidekick can't act -- at all -- and his change in the movie is contrived and just out of place for his character. It teaches some good lessons, though. The main lesson is sacrifice which comes through in the end. 21/2, maybe 3, stars.
And you call yourself carsleuth? C'mon. Clint knows how important cars can be and the 1972 Gran Torino takes center stage a couple times. A couple interesting things I noted in the movie. There was a scene in which Clint was on his front porch talking to Tao and the American flag was in the frame and blowing with an apparently natural wind. Well the sound tracl wasn't so good. It sounded hollow or beige so I believe they liked the take and had to live with the sound. I probably noticed it because I'v egotten back into stereo in a big way and notice things more. The other is a scene in which he is on the back porch talking to the girl (can't remember her name) and Tao is in the background washing the car. Well Clint is drinking A PBR and the shot is from over his shoulder such that you cah see a Diet Coke that appears to be sitting on the table but you can't see the table. It appeared to me that it was out of scale and just didn't belong. Then the girl made a jesture with her hands and arms and I swear I saw her hand go in front of the Coke indicating that it may have been a big can behind her, a paid for ad.
My Dad had a '72 Ranchero GT, pretty much the same car as the Torino, only in pickup form. Same green color too. It had a 429 in it, was great fun to blow the doors off my friends in their Firebirds and Camaros! Seeing that picture on the trailers makes me nostalgic. I was in the car the day it died. Wasn't driving, but was there.
I don't like to go to see movies as a critic, it spoils the fun. I would give it 4.5 stars. Maybe I'm turning into a big puss but the ending nearly brought a tear to my eye.
That's sad, as if MDB was a few notches worse, it may not have held me............But it was not and I enjoyed it. Is GT THAT bad?
Clint is getting a bit long in tooth to play leading dramatic roles. Sorry. Paul Newman faced the same thing & bowed out gracefully. I'm looking forward to seeing Grand Torino but think Clint's time may be passed for gun toting tough guy & he is better in the director's role.
Did anyone see Clint Eastwood in the 911 celebration? "300 million victims become 300 million heros." Good stuff.
